445 trans leak question

I have a leak on my trans above the filter on the motor housing. In the attached pics it’s leaking out by the yellow arrows. The orange arrows indicate what I believe to be removed to fix.

I’ve read multiple threads saying the gasket located there typically dry rots and cracks over time. I’ve also read you don’t have to pull the whole plate off (orange arrows) and you can pop the cap off the motor housing and remove a circlip on the shaft to get to the issue. When looking at the parts breakdown it looks like I have to remove the the whole trans plate.

I’ve downloaded the k92 trans manual, but I believe the trans is a tuff torq k91. Does anyone know the difference between the two?

Has anyone done this repair? I’ve tried to message the few people on here that have tackled it, but no one has responded. Any help would be great before I really tear into this.

krathb01,
Good to see that the trans assembly is outside the tractor. I had a bearing failure on my 455's Tuff Torq back in 2010 and did a full tear down. The area you highlight was part of the job. A couple of my posts from 2010 include photos of this job in progress. I will see if I can find some more for you today. Maybe Mr. Beef will stop by this thread and he can tell you more clearly the difference between a K91 and K92. For the job you are tackling I believe the K91 and 92 are the same. My understanding is the only noticeable difference is in how the differential gear set and shafts are configured internally. When I ordered the parts for my trans rebuild I worked off of a K92 parts list and they all fit.
I know you are focused on fixing the leak in your photos. While the unit is out of your tractor my personal recommendation is to go through it and replace all of the seals including the differential lock shaft seal, mid-PTO shaft seal, charge pump input shaft seal and the O-rings (2) on the swash plate shaft and brake lock shaft (inside the case... simple to replace when the unit is out of the tractor). For not a lot of $$ you can avoid pulling the Tuff Torq again (for a while) when another seal starts to leak.

Will be back here later today if I find the pictures from the area you highlight.

I watched the 6 part mr beef mini series on the tear down of the 425 trans he did on you tube. If was very informative, but the one area I was looking at he spoke about, but skipped pulling it off on camera.

Thank you very much for the detailed reply and information.
Krathb01, I'm running into the same delima on my 445. I have the motor cup removed from the center block in an effort to replace the front motor bearing but the manual doesn't say how to remove the cap that covers the bearing. Others on the forum have been helpful and came to the conclusion I need to pry the cap out by force. This may be true but thought I would see if there are any other ideas. I know this string is over 10 years old but since it's exactly my issue I thoughtI would attempt to contact you/revive the string.

I've attached a photo of the cap I'm trying to remove. Thanks
