I have decided that it cost a lot of money to have FUN:banghead3
yesterday , I had a new clutch kit installed in my roll back truck, to the tune of one thousand , two hundred and fourty seven dollars.
There I said it, it dont look so bad without the dollar sighn.

What kinda truck is it? Last I saw labor was pretty pricy on big truck stuff. Im guessing it was 50/50 parts/labor?
I had a friend that I wrecker for daily do the work. the parts were $807.00.
Its a 98 GMC top kick , 6500 , Cat engine ,Eaton trans.
Thats a big job in my opinion! I think he treeted me pretty good.
This year , $1ooo.oo worth of brakes , $1000.00 of tires, close to a thousand for a P/S pump. now the clutch. I dont really mind the small things , but I worry about the engine , near 300,000 miles now.:praying:
Like Artpb said , it will earn money. Im just investing.

That cat diesel would last over 800 thousands miles. My Boss have one it at 535 thousands miles but most problem is injector pump this year and he say it was epa's fault for order diesel to have low surflar. So he start put fuel addictive it seem to help much.:fing32:

That would be nice Dan , Im afraid that the itty bitty kitty(small cat) is possible to do 400,000 , but 500,000 is unrealistic. Its a throw away engine, replacement is the same price as rebuilding it. 10,000 dollars plus.
Maybe it will last till I quit!

I understand the Chinese are going to open a chain of repair shops all across the U.S. in a few years. Kinda like the laundries in the old days. Sure will save having to outsource expensive auto and truck repair.

"No tickee, no clutchee!" (That ain't sexist, racist, nationalist, stateist, boor-ist and any other "ist" is it?) :sidelaugh:sidelaugh: :ROF :bannana:

Doc, if a Ford with a 7.3 will last 900K I would think that little Cat should be good for half that even if the old fart only changed the oil every 8K. Now if he changed that oil at 3K it might last at least 300K.:ROF :praying:

It seems like w/ a truck , like yours--it's everything @ one time--well, while I've got tyhe wheels off-lets re-do the brakes/or shocks/how about those hyd. hoses--where they've been rubbing?
Good luck with your ride---consider it an investment in your other 'part-time job'---
Tractor-hunting!!

Does a 4 button clutch have more longevity than a normal disc type??
I cant explain this in tech. words. The button clutch does last longer, reason being , the full circle disk is your normal clutch fiber material. the button clutch has a material more like a brake pad is made of. I just dont know the ten dollar words to explain it. I WAS surprised at the fact , they dont hurt a fly wheel that bad at all.

This is the first I've ever heard of Four button clutches, but I'm definetly intrigued. Are the four button clutches readily available for equipment like my Ford New Holland 1715?? If so....where would I start looking for them??

I would start by checking at your new holland dealer , I got this last clutch kit
from a local car quest store. also I have gotten them from Premier truck parts store. All , that we have installed have been original equipment for the trucks.
I have tried to get the clutch kit from local GM dealers , they look at me like Im from Mars.:biglaugh:
I would bet money that your Ford dealer can cross match the clutch.
