210 What's It Worth Thread

A neighbor has ended up with a couple of old GTs and I am going to help him find new homes for them. The JD is a 210. I actually have heard and seen it run and cut grass last year. The motor ran good. It is definitely a project. We will get it running again before I put it on CL.

So what's it worth as it sits but with it running and the tires pumped up :sidelaugh

Also, where does the 210 stand in relation to the 140 or 300 series ? Is this like a GT245 in relation to a shaft drive JD GT [ 425 445 ? ] from the early 2000's ?

Thanks for any input !!!

That 210 doesn't look too bad. I would give $350 for it. Granted it doesn't have any performance issues. Get the thing running and driving and air the tires up and see how she shifts into gear, make sure the variator works and see how the mower deck sounds, to see if it might need bearings. Also check the belts. If it has a helper spring or the rear lift kit (metal plate with 4 bolts and a knob on the back hitch) then that adds to the value too.

Just for comparison, the 200 series were replaced by the 240-320 series tractors which eventually evolved into the GT225-GT275 and the 325-GX345 series, which evolved into the x500's.

That is somewhat on track but the 320,325-345 are more like a early 300 series if you ask me because of the hydro tranny and hydraulic lift... and power steering on the 335/345. Comparing to say a 212/214 and a 314/317. The 318/322/332 were more like a 400 series though in comparison (open rear frame) if you really think about it. I assume that's why they named the 320 the 320 instead of a 295 because of the hydraulic lift put it with the 300 series. Kind of an interesting topic really.

What part of PA are you in? In the Lancaster-Philly-South Jersey areas you can't usually find a 200 series below $300.

I'm in the Northwest and machines in reasonable shape would get $350 but with all the items missing, broke, or in question on that it will bring the price down. Yes different areas will bring different prices but that is what my estimate on that gt is.

You're probably more accurate since you've owned a few more than me. But living in different areas does make a difference in prices for this stuff. I have a buddy in State College and he tells me you can't find them for under $1k out there. He thought, at $475, he got a steal for the 198th model 214 made. All original except a crappy repaint job....

I added a few notes to it to cause a re look on it. Being technical the 318/322/332 weren't replaced they were just discontinued. The 318/322/332 were in a league above the 300 series if you really think about it. The 318 was pretty much a 420 with 18hp vs 20hp and H2 vs H3 and different sized tires.

The 300/312/314/316/317 had a closed rear frame just like the 320/325/335/345/355. Only real difference is Belt drive to the tranny vs shaft drive to the tranny and remote hydraulics.

I always looked at the 318 as John Deere's budget 420 since a lot of people didn't need the extra hydraulic and bigger tires or the extra 2hp. Im not sure why JD decided to do away with the 3 pt option on the late 300 series... probably to save money and keep a competitive price. It was around that time that Americans were trying to get the most for their money and most people didn't really need a 3 pt on a garden tractor. I would also bet the 318 really cut into the 400 series sales.

Didn't mean to hijack the thread. I just have a hard time keeping quiet on something I don't think is right. I like the facts to be straight since a lot of people read this site to help gain knowledge of lawn and garden tractors. Sorry for throwing the thread off course.

As for the 210 I would have to agree and say list it for $200 or $250 and see what kind of offers you get. I see a lot of 212/214 for sale in my area for $600-$1200 depending on condition but they have all been listed for months so they aren't selling at those prices.

i have had 2 different 210's for some reason in my area nobody wants them and i dont understand why ? mine both ran well decks worked well the variators worked tires and seat good on both , ended up giving them away for 200 and 250 even at those prices they didnt sell fast , i just decided to cut my loses and move on to something else , i wouldnt invest a bunch of money with the intent of making a profit , now on the other hand if you want to fix it up and keep it to use thats a completly different story
