Hello, new member here. Found this site thru WFM and love it.

I'm looking for some opinions. I put ag tires on the back of one of my 212s, and want/need to put new front tires on it also. I can't decide on rib tires or ag tires for the front. I work my tractors year round(snowblower, blade, grader, tiller, and of course mower)

Any opinions are greatly appreciated, as are pictures of similiar set ups.

Thanks, awesome site guys

I can't offer any input on your quesiton Clarke, but did want to say howdy and welcome aboard, we are pleased to have you here :).

Weekend Freedom Machines is a good site too, it is mentioned and refered to here quite a few times when folks are looking for good info. on the older JD's :fing32: .

I'd go with a ribbed tire up front. The ags would look good, but it's a bit of a waste on a 2WD tractor, and the ribs , like the V61's, would give you better steering control, in snow or dirt or grass.

Got any pics of your 212's? We'd all love to see them. I've got a 214 to rennovate, and rear ags and the V61's up front is how I'll go.

I would go with Ribs!
:MTF_wel:Glad to have you! :fest30: Would like to see some pictures of your Tractor, because :wwp: Click on the Pink Panther for great picture help from Ken!

Clarke212, as others have mentioned, go with the ribs you won't be disappointed and they will really set your machine off right with those ags already on the back. I am partial to the V61s but you could also do a tri-rib. And before I forget welcome and we're glad to have you aboard.:thThumbsU

:Welcome1: I'll post some pics. of my V61s when i get back to my computer.

Those prices are for the Rubes that don't know enough to check around.

I was mail ordering some itty bitty ones last year for some of my much smaller tractors for about $50 a pair.

You will want a bigger size that some of the guys came up with. Someone else will have to get you the V61 prices.

Here is the old thread.

Check out post #10 you might want to PM small fry and see if he still knows that ebay sellers ID. that has 4.00-8 tri ribs They were only $38 a set last year plus $15 shipping.

clarke212 - Several of the guys on WFM have been purchasing their V61s from Tire Unlimited as of late for a pretty reasonable price. Remember in order to replace the stock size on your tractor you need the 170/60-8 (16x6.50-8) and you'll need tubes with those also. Seems the metric size on those tires have a slight issue with setting a bead correctly on the stock John Deere OEM rims. I know first hand I put them on my 140 and I needed tubes.

I'd contact Todd Dixon - Sales Coordinator for Tires Unlimited at Phone #: (800) 628-4737 ask what he has available and what S/H costs are to you.

Some links for your reference to aid you in your search:
Note: Tires From Europe and Tires Unlimited are the same company.
Vredestein
Tires From Europe
Miller Tire

In addition Miller Tire (one of the sponsors here at MTF) also has the V61 tires but I've read that they're more expensive. You should contact them as well in order to give you a better idea of the pricing available.

Not much more I can do or tell ya, but I can say this if you do decide to purchase and mount a pair of V61s you won't regret it.

What are the pros and cons of the tri-ribs vs. the five rib V61s? Which is easier on the turf? Which is better for work in dirt? or snow? I guess with the tri-rib you don't need inner tubes? How come the tri-rib is a lot more expensive? Last question, what are the ply ratings of the tri-rib vs. the V61s? Thanks!

Which is easier on the turf? The V61.

Which is better for work in dirt? or snow? The tri-rib.

the tri-ribs are tubeless.

How come the tri-rib is a lot more expensive?

No company made a 16x650-8 tri-rib until Miller Tire had the tire developed. Start-up cost that can't be shared with many other sizes, like a Firestone can (developement cost, mold cost, tire testing, etc.). Small producton runs (500 tires verus 10,000 tires).

The tri-rib is 4 ply, V61 16x650-8 is 6 ply, the 18x850-8 is 4 ply.

Thanks Ed! Great info....just what I was looking for....maybe one of the moderators could make this info into a "sticky" as I bet some others would have the same questions. I may have some V61s in my future! :bannana:

Okay, I'm now convinced in ribs. But, still not sure between tri-ribs and V61's.

If i go by what millertire says, I should probably get tri-ribs. My tractors do everything (mow, collect leaves, blow snow, plow snow, till, grade, and whatever else I can think of)
