So the wife got a little close to a boulder out in the yard this weekend and scratched her X730 on the fender. I don't want to keep it as-is because it looks horrible. What is the easiest way to make it look good again? I am not a painter, so please keep that in mind. I was thinking about taping off the good parts and trying to spray paint just where the scratches were, but there might be too many. I also wasn't sure if a touchup brush would make it look ok or not as well. Any ideas?

Jd had touch paint just like automotive. Has the small brush and needle point. Prb best bet to help mask it without a complete paint job.

I just picked one up today during lunch. I will give it a try and see what it does. Anything has to look better than what it currently looks like.

This may sound stupid and get totally laughed off, but have you ever seen those scratch fix sticks for wood? They're basically a crayon. You use it to fill the scratch, then buff the surface even. It isn't perfect, but it looks better than the scratch.

I've seen similar things in some auto parts stores.

Trick would be to find the right green.

besides sanding and paining the whole thing I wouldn't touch it. Any touch up will stand out worse
:ditto: Treat it as character and every time you get on it will remind you not to get close to that rock again...

Any spray paint has a 95%+ chance of looking paint bombed.... Almost every X unit I have seen with damage someone has tried to repair looked like crap.... color didn't match.... paint was dull or too shiny... etc...

Good luck with the touch up paint hope it works though!!

now the crazy thing is the paint might look close when wet.. when it dries it could b worse off .. it's just one of those things ya gotta live with..

I could get that out with a DA sander. Once all level, paint it so that it's blended in. No tape, because tape will leave a line. 2 clearcoat, I'm thinking.

Had the same kind of scratch on the hood. Easy to fix. Didn't come from a rock but a big log.
