well now matter what i do i have one tire on my pto horse that will loose air over a weeks time. ive cleaned the rim and tire bead several times, by the way the rim is like new, no rust. im thinking about using some of the bead sealer.

i actually can see it leak on the bead, really small bubbles but there they are. ill try the bead sealer. tubes, well almost everything i have had with tubes always went flat. pressure washer, wheel barrow and so on.

Try lettin' out some air pressure and running a bead of dish washing soap around the rim. Let it sit overnite, then air up. Seems to soften up most of the tires that I had small leaks in.
Up, installed some tubes, too. My econo horse' has sat for 2 years, and the tires are getting soft. Maybe for the lack of 'exercise'.

well i went to oreillys and bought some Xtra Seal - Chemical Vulcanizing Cement, thought i was buying some bead sealer, but anyway that sealed it, i only had really minor, and i mean minor, bubbles at a few spots on one tire bead section. im sure there sealed to the bead now, maybe for good, but then how often do you really change the tires, these are like new and seeing as i dont hardly use the machine i dont think ill be wearing them out. by the way, my one tire would go flat but it would take about two weeks or better.

ridin mower tires r not made to the exact specs like a car tire is.. I've seen brand new tires not sealin on rims.. I guess every mower owner is supposed to have an air compressor..

One thing about putting tubes in tires that are tubless. Better check the inside of the rim for weld splatter or anything else not smooth. I had a new pair of tri-ribs mounted on a pair of Cub Cadet rims where there were tubless tires before. Tire fellow insisted on putting tubes in. Within a week one went flat. Sure enought sharp object on inside of rim. I just took another cub tire apart that for years had a tube, although not from new, weld splatter finally put a hole in the tube.

I once used Permatex "High-Tack"gasket sealer, the kind that comes in a metal can with a brush,on a tire that had stubborn bead leaks..I had nothing else at my disposal, and the can said it worked on rubber,so---...

It never leaked again, but years later when I went to replace the tire after it became so dry rotted it actually ripped apart,I had a very hard time getting the tire beads to break free--I soaked it with all kinds of solvents, gas, tried a chisel and hammer--I ended up using a propane torch, just about had to burn the tire off the rim !..
Stuff is like a weld once it cures!..ditto for "Indian Head Gasket Shellac"..
I used that once on a tire bead on my '56 chevy pickup and had to put some lighter fluid around the rim and set it ablaze and let it burn to loosen it up..

A friend who worked in a tire shop told me they sometimes substituted rubberized driveway sealer (the type with no "grit") for bead sealer, also 3M rubberized undercoating,in a pinch..claims it works just as good as the true "bead sealer" sold for 12 bucks a pint in stores..
They also used Murphy's Oil Soap exclusively for mounting tires..
I use it myself and rarely need bead sealer--I've used grease or vaseline for bead sealer and it worked good for me,but I've read and been told petroleum and rubber dont get along well, but I've never seen any evidence of it making the rubber deteriorate..

well the tires still look good. the machine was kept in a garage and i keep it out of the sun. if i ever need to replace the tires and they wont break off the rims then i guess ill have to buy a pair of wheels and tires as a set.

Agree one has to check but it is rare to have problems. I had to have installed 1oo plus over the years and never an issue other than holding on to the stem during inflation LOL
In fact did 4 this week on the two old troy horses and they were in rough shape both rims and the tires
Cheers

Maybe, but not so rare for me. I will only put a tube in as a last resort.

I wonder Y they recommend that u check the pressure in ur car or pickup tires at least once a month.... DUHHHHHH...

The farther north you go the more tubes you will see especially here where we live right next to the ocean and salt air. The rims rot so bad it is impossible to seal them and time is money when dealing with a customers machine, I don't even try to seal the rims. I cut the stem, clean the rim and install a tube in like 15 minutes and all are happy
I would not let a few bad experiences stop me from a quick sure fix.My only problem with tubes the odd time is rushing and not taping the ends of the screwdrivers and pinching one
Cheers

I use round shafted screwdrivers on my smaller rims.. they had the end broke on them.. I took my flapper pad on my grinder & made all edges rounded so no sharp edges..
