Looking terrific Ellis. I love the look of the brow on the hood over the dash.

Mike's pride in the project sure comes through in that picture.

Not picking any favs as I enjoy watching both of you on your projects, but Dave, these 2 look to be on a roll. Then again Ellis has been known to just inexplicably loose interest for a while. Just sayin' - might be your best hope.

I don't know, Al. They are on a roll for sure! I think I'd have a better chance if we didn't make the bet for beer.:) I tried out the starter and it is toast. So I'll need to get another one before I make any attempt to get it running.

Well--you know how 'little kids' are (Even grownups)--easily distracted and side-tracked by bright lights and shiny objects! they loose all momentum!

Sometimes when messing w/ Ellis--I just can't help myself-

Can't really say why my focus with some of my projects divert. Sometimes for long periods. I do know with my business, I'm making other folks "projects" and deadlines need to be met every day. At times, that's a drag. I guess I'm like that mechanic whose own car always needs a tune-up :sidelaugh

But who cares when there's a six shooter at stake :trink40::bananapow

Did some good work with the Custom yesterday. Welded the socket in and installed the petcock. Next we turned to the mounting. I came up with something pretty simple. I welded two 3/8" pieces of steel rod in and covered them with fuel line. The tank rested on these and was strapped down with a pair of stainless steel 6" hose clamps.

Also installed the battery and ground.

Then we said screw it. Dumped some fuel in, ran a new line and fired her over with a set of cables. She fired right up. Sounds strong and not a wisp of smoke. We also set up all the controls, hi/low, gears, etc. Getting ready to hit it again today. Found this old pic of the original 200 buck donor. Compared it to what we got now.

That tank mount is as solid and professional as a lot of factory installations for similar things. In fact, even the stock Gravely tank is no more secure and no more complicated than that.

Nice.

OK, I'll admit to being jealous of your deck mounts - wish I had that going on my 20G when i put it back together. On those heavy seat pans the original setup doesn't cut it. You have a knack of identifying the weak link and making it look easy to solve. The mod in the hood opening design comes to mind.

That tank fits like a glove.:fing32: You know, spring is coming. If it were me, I would be working on the bike instead of the custom. Not that I'm trying to take your mind off of the custom, or anything...:praying:
Now this is most certainly a ruse! But like I said earlier it might work?

Then again, with a six-pack of his choice ahead, and Mike behind him your only chance for victory may well be -

Nice tank install idea, keep it simple, but very effective!

Thanks, I'm happy with the tank. Looks good with a good story behind it. Thing is really solid, and no rattling :fing32:

No use Dave. My focus is laser like right now. Hey, wow, that cobweb is shaped like the constellation Orion............but, yeah Al, like I said my brain's all in on this one.

Thanks Al. It's cool when you can improve stuff a bit without having to reinvent the wheel.

No higher compliment than wicked pissah :thThumbsU Thanks, my friend.

So yesterday installed a simple push button start. Had it in stock, and I really like push button starts. Anyhow, new cables, solenoid, etc.

Then we fired that mutha up. All good. Put her in one lo and walked her back and forth in the shop. All good. I see a field trip in the near future. I'm hoping really near. Off to the shop :howdy:

Looking like a fun field trip.

I like the proportion Ellis. I know the answer of course, but it leaves my eye wondering if the hood is truly lengthened. Just right.:fing32:

Probably doesn't feel as lite in the front either.

So did Mike get a turn?

Man that is going to be one bad a** gravely.

Where's the video?!?! C'mon guys! :D

Looks like a great maiden voyage to me too. :fing32:

I don't know Ellis, aside for the yard tug duties and occasional pulling at the fairs, I think it'd look awesome with a mid mount grader blade hanging under it!

So how did the maiden voyage go? Drive nice and straight? Engine purring like a kitten?

Looks even better outdoors! :fing32:

I had a similar thought then wondered if the grader blade would reach the ground. :sidelaugh
