Quite pleased with this unit. As I approach 2 years there are just a couple items that I could whine about.

Diff lock pedal could be better located for access with clunky winter boots

Nice if they supplied a cover for the mid mount PTO shaft for winter, similar to the one on the rear.

As long as I`m dreaming, for OPTIONS I`ll suggest a heated seat and front fenders :hide:

What`s on your list ?

Keep the suggestions coming. I'm sure Kubota is listening -- not sure about the heated seats though. :)

Show some pictures--and tell us about any mods you have done...Please--

I like mine a lot, but here is my list:

Radiator drain impossible to get to without getting an antifreeze bath.

Brake lock is too narrow and too close to the foot board (this may have been updated already).

Steering wheel blocks view of the tach (this has been updated).

That's it. the radiator drain is the biggest headache and it can't be emptied from the top with a pump and hose.

Eight, I noticed that there is no model number decal on your hood. That's the first one I've seen like that.

The drain issue is a very valid point:thThumbsU

That`s because I peeled them off the day it was delivered, the chrome was a bit gaudy for my tastes. JMO

Surprised that nobody has mentioned rear view mirrors! How the heck is an old guy supposed to see what he's doing with the back blade...

Ditto on that ! It's not easy to turn your head like the young guys can.

A couple of leisure items. I'd like seeing a few hooks on the loader and backhoe buckets. Not everyone has a welder handy. I'd go for a swivel seat design that you didn't have to work from the ground. It's hard on the lower back to reach across to manually pivot the seat around for the backhoe. Great tractor otherwise.

I have never gotten along with a hydro. I really wish there was a gear driven option. Cooler, more efficient, and for me, easier to drive than that hydro that gives you whiplash every time rearward motion is stopped.

Also, attaching the snowblower crank to the hydraulic lever is VERY sub standard engineering.

There shouldn't be whiplash unless you have one of the 50 series. I very much like that the hydro stops the tractor when backing down a slope and you release the pedal, without whiplash.

Here's a list of upgrades and modifications I've made to my BX23 since purchasing it used 5 years ago with 168 hrs. Has 880+ hours now.

Bucket Hooks: Ditto on the earlier comment about the bucket hooks. One of the best add-ons out there. Significantly increases the carrying capacity/volume of brush you can tote around w/o dropping half of it on the way to the woods. Also great for carrying stumps, logs, and other large bulky items.

Alternator Upgrade: This is highly recommended for the earlier BX's with the small generator. The Alternator is a tight fit, but well worth the price.

Gator Blades: Upgraded to gator blades on the 60 inch deck. Far superior lift and mulching compared to the OEM blades. I don't pick up leaves anymore on our property, just mow in circles and mince the leaves to small bits.

Bucket Extender: I also fabricated a simple 5/8" plywood bucket extender with 2x6 sides that bolts inside the bucket with 2 -3/8" bolts. It's great for carrying brush, bags of mulch, loose mulch and whatever; and as a mobile work bench when doing chores around the house.

Wing Plow: Since you plow snow... a wing plow has been a big plus for me because we have some sharp drop-offs along the edge of our 450 foot driveway. The wing plow allows me to push the snow back 2 feet or so further the side than what I can do with the front snow blade w/o getting a tire off the edge of the driveway. Did that once and had to get my pickup with chains to get it unstuck... Can check out the wing plow on youtube - search on "BX23 Wing Plow" The attached pics are before final painting and some touch-up on the mechanicals. A bit awkward in appearance, but works well.

Extra lighting: Have a set of 55 watt halogens on the ROPs bar (which will be replaced soon with high efficiency LEDs), along with two sets of el cheapo LEDs from Advance Auto Parts (two pointing forward and two backward). The LEDs are not spectacular, but all together everything works well.

Warning strobes: Installed a set of yellow LED strobes on the ROPs bar too. They help get folks attention, which is a challenge here in N. VA. The current draw is negligible.

Canopy: Fabricated my own canopy with some trim boards and orange rip-stop nylon. Worked great for 3 years till a vine tore broke the boards at their mounts a few months ago. Staying out of the sun in the summer is a big plus. Working on a cab now.

Manual Fuel Shutoff Wire:
Installed a stiff wire with a loop on the end through the front grill that is attached to the manual fuel shut off lever on the fuel pump. Should the fuse on the rear accessory electrical circuit fail there is no way to shut off the tractor. The wire provides a remote way to manually activate the shut-off lever. Read about this trick from a previous thread a few years ago. Have not had to use it yet, but it's cheap insurance just in case.

Design Shortfalls (on BX23):

Air filter mount: On my 3rd air filter bracket in 4 years now. They keep breaking at the mount. The bracket is prone to stress fracturing and failure if the engine is left at low idle too long. I've learned to bump the idle up a bit to reduce the vibration, but should not have to do that. There is vibration harmonic at low idle that really moves the air filter around a lot. Perhaps this has been resolved with newer models, don't know.

Agree with the other comments about the brake lock lever and rear differential lock lever. Both are hard to engage with boots on.

Watched the vid, seems to work quite well. Thanks :thThumbsU

( have to admit a quick pre-coffee scan of your post had me initially thinking your drive had a 450 drop-off ! )

RDM has them, he thinks of everything:thThumbsU

Haha - thanks for the compliment Eight, but I'm still learning as I go, and from all the posters here with far more experience than I.

Mounted one convex mirror on the outside of the FEL spool cover on the right side, and a second one on the underside of the canopy on the left side. A bit hokey but they helped a lot, especially the one on the left up high. Occasionally, I drive and/or plow on residential streets and it is priceless in our neighborhood to be able to see what's coming from behind. Would be nice if Kubota offered some OEM mirrors for both sides that are designed for the application. Seems to be a common desire amongst users.

One item I left off the other list is a tool box. Took a .50 cal ammo box, painted it orange and mounted it on the back of my seat. It's just big enough to carry the basics, to include adjustable wrenches to adjust the box blade height/angle when grading (don't a lot of that on our property to recover some previously unmaintained land). Have an OEM Kubota upgraded seat for my BX and it has 4 mounting holes on the back. I assume that is to mount a tool box and/or some other accessory, but not sure we can given even Kubota that much credit. Have seen some folks mount tool boxes on the side handles on the fenders, but I did not want to do anything that hung over the sides, or blocked the visibility of the flashers.

I really like the idea of this ^^^. :thThumbsU

Thanks - Thought the same the first time I read it here a few years ago, so I can't take credit for it. That goes to someone else far more creative. Every once in a while I give the wire a pull just make sure the linkage is aligned correctly, just in case.

In the "continuing improvements department" the 20 amp fuse under the seat on the BXs that controls the rear accessory circuit should really be separate from everything else. If they had to share the fuel shutoff solenoid with something else, you'd think they'd combine it with something other than the accessory circuit. Perhaps Kubota balanced the electrical load out some other way on more recent models. Maybe someone with a newer model can chime in.
