Hi guys,

I hate to ask a stupid question but...

The 48" deck on my X500 is not level. So using the gauge that is in the deck height adj knob I put it where the "triangle" points are on the left and right side. The question is; is the top of the gauge supposed to be level with the top of the triangle point or is the gauge supposed to fit under the deck lip?

The 3rd leveling point is supposed to be at the front of the deck and marked. For the life of me I cannot find any marking. That being said if the marking is there somewhere, where does the gauge match up to?

Thanks for you assist!!

This is from the 7 series manual, may be different on the new 5 series.

The gauge should go under the deck. The third point is on the front left hanger bracket.

Consider looking into one of these. its good that the deck is level, this will check the blades. You can probably find it for just a couple of bucks (pun intended).:sidelaugh

I think it is around $7 bucks. USE THIS and forget the factory tool. IMHO

I have the gauge hostaman posted a picture of. It's worth the $10 it cost.

My first mower was a hand me down lawn machine. I would level the deck with air pressure... In the tires.

So the big allen wrench that Deere provides rounded itself nice and smooth. Went to Lowes and then did not have anything even close to the needed length. Anyone know of a long 8mm ball end allen wrench that is usable? Don't want to buy another Deere tool since the metal seems to be as soft as clay. Thank you!

Mine did the same thing. This new leveling system sucks!! I bought a small 4" pipe wrench and used it to turn the bolt. Then later I realized you could turn those pieces upside down and that leaves the nut head exposed and you can then get a 18" wrench on it like the old setup.

now I need one of those tools too. My wrench for my X730 is good and round. Hope I didn't damage the bolt head as well. The left side bolt is very tight so that's probably how it got round. I have really never been able to get the deck leveled correctly.
