Not sure if this is the right forum but im sure its related

Just thought id put it out there to see peoples thoughts on this subject
John deere is getting out of the chainsaws trimmers ect and has struck a deal with Stihl to provide at their dealerships. I personaly love stihl but it has long since been asociated with Case dealer ships and cub cadet dealers. this might strike some hardcore deere fans wrong but i personaly say if its a good product its a good product dosent matter the name

I consider myself a hardcore Deere fan, but I think the new relationship with Stihl is great. Stihl makes great stuff and should be a good thing for most Deere dealers.

You mean they are going to stop putting their name and colors on something.

With the way their logo is showing up everywhere these days, I thought they were going to put their logo on anything & everything. It really makes me think of quality farm equipment when I see the John Deere BBQ grills, or Popcorn Machines or the John Deere pellet/corn stove.

interesting, I wonder if my dealer will stop selling Echo stuff.

Actually the last saws they had was pretty good stuff made by Emac of Italy but the damage was done years ago to JD and chainsaws that they were selling before the Italian stuff. No one trusted their saws no matter who made them.

I like the green stuff but before I knew any better I picked up a JD trimmer. Not a cheep one but a high end one. It broke after 10 min. The dealer replaced it and then the other unit broke after the first use. After that Stihl had always filled my needs for small power stuff. This move should be good for JD and Stihl. :thThumbsU

Deere and Stihl is my preferred combination. That said, I'm not inclined to purchase any tools from my Deere dealership because of their lack of knowledge even about Deere equipment. I like going into the lawnmower shop and talking with someone that really knows his equipment and can share experiences gleaned from lawn and garden business customers. Nope, I'll take the specialty shop over Deere. At least there, I know the salesman will not try to BS me before I challenge him and he has to run to the literatuare to find out saw bar length combinations or what heads fit my FS76.

QUite the opposite of my dealer. The L&G guy is very knowledgable abt all their products from the Stihl line to generators and of course all the tractors up to the top end of the cuts. I saw a Stihl FS90R in the showroom right after they started selling Stihl and it was in my quonset a day later. As with every purchase I have made from my dealer I am very happy with it. The nice thing abt my dealer and alot of others on here is the very low kew low pressure sales tactics.

My JD dealer http://www.adamsfarms.com/power_equipment/index.htm has been selling Stihl for years. I got my 026P there a ways back. Then they took on Husqvarna also. I don't think anybody tells them what brands they can carry anyhow. Small sales get the same friendly and knowledgable treatment as big sales. Same can't be said for the CubKubota dealer the same distance away in another direction! Lucky I found this out on a push mower and not a major tractor purchase.

Hi

My JD dealer has sold STihl for a long time. Up here the chain saw market is dominated by Stihl and Husqvarna (not sure on the spelling). Both are good products. When I went looking for a new saw I bought Stilh because of my existing relationship with the JD dealer and theyalso have good service.

I went with lightweight Dolmar for a trimmer this time after selling my too heavy for me T27 Shindaiwa.

This must explain why I got a mailer last week from my dealer introducing themselves as the area'a newest Stihl dealer.

Around here the JD dealer sells Stihl.:thThumbsU

Here in Halifax the JD Dealer has a massive selection of Stihl products, I have been running their chainsaws for years (stihl) and they are top drawer products. I did buy the JD Brush saw over the Stihl this summer, it felt like a superior brush saw although I ordered the Stihl body harness as it was far superior to JD.

Anyhow I personally think this is a good move on the part of JD.

I have a few Stihl products which have always served me very well but I did pick up two JD chain saws from a dealer that was blowing out their JD saws, trimmers and blowers. So far thay have operated very well. Made by Emac of Italy. I also have a small JD trimmer with a Mitsubishi power head that has had zero issues the last two summers I have used it. I really don't need 3 chain saws but what the heck:thThumbsU

I bought my 020AV Stihl chain saw from my John Deere dealer in 1973. The same dealer has always provided service on the Stihl, and has just this Fall gone through the unit installing a carb kit, replacing the fuel filter (original) and fuel line, replacing the gasket betwen the cylinder and crankcase, and replacing one of the crankshaft/crankcase seals, all for $135.00. It runs like new. Idles down to a crawl and rev's wonderfully. Lots of torque, cuts 15" (16" bar) oak quicky. Someone above commented on Echo. My JD dealer says the Echo's have generally been very good machines, but parts availability for even slightly older machines is very poor, and parts interchangability between models is non-existant.

John Deere and Stihl sounds like a winner to me. I already have a Stihl chainsaw, blower, and trimmer. :fing32:
You have all the cool toys!!!
