So where did we all learn to type? In 10th grade another guy and I were the only guys in the typing class out of about 25 kids. The teacher made us her "special project" and we did pretty good. It was the one Regents final I didn't have to study for. I managed 45 correct wds/min. and Mrs. Kennedy was very happy. After highschool I never typed another stroke until my wife brought home an electric typer the boss was replacing... After almost 40 years I started typing again and now with this computer I can get pretty good speed and accuracy... (And I don't have to look..... much!) Never was good with the top row, numbers killed my final test speed! :D

WOW, almost the same exact experience with me, with a few exceptions. I took typing just to fill up my 11th grade school sched. I had enough credits to graduate with just a minimum 12th grade load. I re-started typing at my first job 10 years later...exporting communication equipment. We had to type about 6 sets of documents and use multi pages of carbon paper! PITA! We also used a Telex machine...no PC's then.

The numbers also were my downfall. I still have to look, and I only got to about 35 wpm. I'm still fast...thanks to spell check! ROF ROF ROF

I learned in highs school, but I'm not that good. I do have occasional bursts of speed and accuracy, but that doesn't happen too often. :bonk:

I took typing in either the 10th or 11th grade. I broke the 45 barrier too!
Been typing off and on ever since. Some at work and some at home. Lots on the computer. The top row gives me trouble too. Don't need to look at the keys, and most always know when I make a mistake. Good on computers, but a bear on the typewriter. Correction isn't as easy on paper.

I had never typed until i bought my computer about 6 or 7 years ago. I have graduated from a 1 index finger typer to a 2 index finger typer. And i have to look at the keyboard the whole time. :fing20:

Same as Durwood about five years ago we got our first computer and it was the first time i had ever used a computer. :bonk:

I also took typing in high school. I could type real fast but the the keys kept sending the wrong letter. I'm back to about four fingers and looking. My fingers just seem to stiff or to do it the right way.

I never took typing at all, but have gotten a lot beter at it the last few years. Thanks to the internet for that one. It has eaven helped my spelling a bit. [Ya, you belive it used to be WORSE!!!!:D] I am not a 4-6 finget typer. Most of the time I dont eaven have to look. Now for the numbers. The top row I am bad at, but give me a key pad, and there is not many faster. I amaze people all the time at work on a number keypad, and NEVER have to look.

About 20 years ago I decided to learn to type - got a book which showed finger positions and how to type, got an old typewriter.
A computer keyboard is an awsome improvement from the old typing machines, along with the ability to arrange or correct instantly. Make a lot of mistakes but look over my posts and eliminate them :fing32: .

I guess it was around 9th grade. Lost most of my skills since I didn't take any follow up classes. But since I had to learn at work, I've become fairly adept at typing. My kids are like, "How can you type so fast?"...LOL

My high school typing teacher was Miss Darcy, not a bad looking young lady, but didn't have the legs for the short skirts she liked to wear. Best I ever hit in class was 18 words a minute. I can probably hit 35-40 now with the work/internet I do. I was truely humbled once at night class sitting next to a young lady in a computer class who could obviously type over 100 hundred words a minute. I couldn't even hear individual heys being hit, it was more like a stready sound.

When my wife and i first started to look at computers, about 8 years ago,we did not even know how to turn one on!!

I am like Paul, i used 1 finger and now have moved to two fingers and do not even have to look at the keyboard!!

I am real glad that we now have spell check next to preview post..

I took typing in 9th grade - to fill out my schedule. I already knew how to cook & sew, so no HomeEc for me. I left being able to type ~45wpm (corrected for errors).

Now I type mostly with 4 fingers of each hand. I do use the pinkies for shift/enter/tab/ ctl/alt/backspace/delete & not much else... unless I'm on the Num. keypad. I worked in the accounting department at Exxon in B.R. for a while so I had to learn to use a calculator without looking & that skill stuck with me. Go figure!
