Does anyone know if the Sundstrand Series 15 hydrostatic transmission (used in many makes/models of GTs in the '70s-'90s, and later sold as a Sauer-Danfoss) is equipped with or has provision for an optional Transaxle Hydrostatic Relief Valve (THRV)?

Or is it just tire spin?

No such critter on a Sundstrand. They're rated for just a wee bit higher max pressure spike than the K92.

The PDF with the technical specs is in the stickies of the Hydraulics subforum.

Thanks Bob. It has been a while since I last perused that pdf. But of course it does say:

Because there are no system pressure relief valves in Series 70 units and many 15 Series transmissions, the maximum hydrostatic motor torque should occur at the vehicle wheel slip condition.
This reminds me that I really need to figure out exactly which version of the Series 15 is installed in my 140. I know it is a 15U, and I assume it is the 90-1252 CCW version since the 140 uses a Dana transaxle. But have never confirmed.

I also keep toying with the idea of shimming the IRV. JD set it up at +/- 500 psi on the 140s, which is much lower than the typical 750-850 in other applications. Not a priority at this point, though.

Me to on my 317. Will give my mechanical 3pt more weight lifting capacity. Only 500 psi. Got a couple shims made but didn't get to it before the cold hit last fall. Now where the heck did I put those shims?:banghead3

Sonny, when you do it, please document extensively. Knuckleheads like me prefer to copy others as much as possible.:fing32:

UT, yours is the 'U' version. I don't think that it's reversible like the inline version. That would probably require a different aluminum housing half.

The implement relief for my MF is 700 psi. Most of the newer JD tractors with that hydro are set at 850-1000 psi. The Series 15 is rated for a max of 1000 psi.
