Well, I found this site several times doing searches for Garden Tractors. The internet kept leading me to some of your forums. I hope I can get some direction from here.
Living in CT, there are very few if any Garden Tractors around so I use Craigs list and E-bay for my shopping. Can you folks suggest other sites I may search for classified ads? I am on a very limited budget (house & hot water heated by oil and CT has the highest gas prices in the nation....) and trying to find a good Garden tractor that can take a variety of attachments. My yard has a steep slope so climbing ability is important. My current Toro rear engine has to go sideways to cut it and I have to stradle the seat quite a bit so not to flip. The wheels break loose going straight up. I have a large yard with a lot of woods so I am bringing down some trees so the thing has to haul some good weight. I also have a snowmobile trailer I hope it can move as well as needed. I do not want to go over 50" cut do to the fact the lawn is not flat in the front yard. I have been looking at Wheel Horse (312-8 and higher, Case 222 and higher, JD...found to be very pricey, and Massey Ferguson...but I cannot find anything on this line, like MF 220, or 2800 or 2700 series. I am looking (like others) the best bang for the buck. I am 6'3" at 250 lbs so the mower has to fit my size or have a seat that adjusts.
Can any one help? Thank You very much!:trink40:

Sincerely,

Rob

Hey, Rob- Welcome to the forum---

I won't be much help but wanted to say "Hi".

I'll bet someone from this forum will have some "helpful" advice shortly

Rob,

Welcome to the forum! :Welcome1: You could also look at www.bargainnews.com and look under the Yard section. I've sold quite a few of my tractors there. :)

Welcome to MTF!!!

There are a lot of tractors around on the east coast... You just gutta learn where to find them. :D

Hit up dealers. A lot of them have older traded in stuff. Ask coworkers. There are a lot just sitting out in barns. Check the local want ads. Creags list has some pop up. Keep the feelers up, and you will start to find them.

As for your size.. Dont sweat it. Im pretty much the same build, and I have yet to find a tractor I did not fit on OK.

Welcome. You should be able to find a GT in this area. They are actually fairly popular in the Northeast. Have you considered a Gravely? I just sold my 5660 to a gentleman in the southern part of the state last year. He had a yard similar to what yours sounds. Steep hills to mow. It worked well for him as it was a walk-behind tractor. They offer tons of attachments and are always on e-bay etc.
But if your set on a rider then scratch the WB type. They also make riders too.
Dealers always have a pretty good selection. Not sure where you are, but try Ellington Agway in, Ellington Ct. Ask for Matt.
Good Luck in your search.

Hi, Welcome to MTF. Where in CT are you. I do have a Wheel Horse 310-8 for sale Here in CT. Really plenty of power as long as you don't put to big a deck on it I think it has a 42, but I'll have to double check. You can blow snow, plow with it and it will even take a rear tiller.

Send me a private message if interested.

Thanks MU, I live in South Windsor and was at Agway this past Sunday. They had nothing used out in front. I check once in a while. I wish they would post it on their web site so I can save the gas driving by...Yes I want a rider so I can pull a wagon/cart as well as a snowmobile trailer.

Do the Doo:

:Welcome1: we are glad to have you. There are lots of friendly and knowledgeable folks here at MTF, so enjoy all the different forums. Check out ”Active Topics” near the top left of the page for all the latest activity.

Do the Doo,

Another welcome to the Forum. Good to see another CT Yankee (meant with all due respect to our southern breatherin) on the forum. I was going to suggest www.bargainnews.com but I see JDFanatic already did. I have bought and sold many items through those classifieds. You can do searches of the Yard Tools section and limit it to specific area codes (203, 860, etc.). However, I usually search on a tractor brand and most of the listings seem to be CT anyway.

Sounds like a Gravely 4 wheel garden tractor would work well for you. Use the phone and call any of your local dealers to see what they have used "out back". Check your local newspaper's classifieds for "for sale" ads and for upcoming auctions and moving sales.

Small world. Check with Kasheta on Rt.5 also, you probably already have. Rockville PE also has used stuff to as well as Lomac in EW. There is an older guy on old main street in SW who fixes and sells old and newer Gravelys. He lives on the right side when going south from the beginning of old main (at post office) I can't remember the exact number but you can see piles of them out back. maybe 2-4 houses after post office. He's real friendly and is reasonably priced. He always has a few riders as well as attachments.
Sorry I can't give any more info. It's been a while since I was down to see him.

Welcome Do the doo,
Hey, instead of driving by the dealers and looking to see what's out front, stop in and ask. Tell them what you're looking for. You'd be surprised; they may have something that they could setup for you. I got my Toro walk behind that way. The dealer said he doesn't sell used, but he had a nice one ,and I could have it if he got it running. He did.and we're both glad. He pocketed some extra cash, and I got a nice mower for the trees and bushes. So You never know. Won't hurt to ask.
