I'm not sure if I have been looking in the right places, but I want a 48" Dozer Blade for my X500 but can't swing the $800 brand new price tag right now. I would like to get a used one and have not seen any for sale on this forums for sale nor Craigslist. I have even been check yardsales and backsteets for "for sale" JD stuff.

Are there other avenues I should pursue in this search?

More importantly, are there dozer blades designed for other series tractors that will easily fit the X500 that I could be searching for?

Thanks

Will a blade off of a GX335 work on an X500?

Try using www.searchtempest.com to search CL, using your zip code and the terms "Deere 48 front blade" as your search criteria. Also try pawn shops, sometimes you will get lucky there.

Well Keep In Mind the 44inch OEM Blade will fit On Your tractor as well and even the Older 44inch OEM will fit from Say a GT 245 ect with some slight Modification http://www.mytractorforum.com/showthread.php?t=226622 You Can Modify a Older 48inch to fit But You will Need some Parts from the New Blade to Make it work and You Be Close to the 48inch New Price Tag:thThumbsU

I used the website Snakemed suggested and bought a NIB 48" blade for my X530 yesterday, got it tonight for $300. I will post pics in the John Deere forum tomorrow on mine, and maybe sell the front hitch and rockshaft. The guy bought it with the tractor but never got around to installing the rockshaft on the machine.

Good for you. That is how mine looked, i.e., never used, but covered in thick dust. There was no rockshaft assembly with mine, but I had it since it came with my 44 blower a season or two before.

Yes I have been using Craigslist and the CL search engine Tempest. I have found a guy selling an X500 with the blade but he won't sell the blade separate unless he can sell the tractor and the buyer doesn't want the blade. Everything else are blades from other model tractors which will require modifications or is just too far away.

I can perform mods, but I would rather not. If push really come to shove (and I don't think I NEED a blade THAT bad yet) I may go the mod route.

Thanks for the replies and if you have a lead on a blade please let me know!

Thanks

$300????? Geeez, and I thought that I did good talking my salesman down to $600 for new... You can probably make a good $100 or so selling the leftover parts. I haven't priced them from JD lately but the hitch is/was well over $100 by itself, and a lot of people will need the rockshaft to get non X500 blades to fit their machines.

A lot of people forget the rockshaft when buying a blade or blower and the price to piece it together can almost offset the price of a new unit. I haven't made up my mind on selling the front hitch or rockshaft yet but it will get first showing here, a little karma for all the great advice.:thThumbsU

I have the rockshaft, push pull linkages and the front mount for the 44" snowblower, are all of those items the same parts used for the blade?

If so, does anyone know if a dealer will sell just the blade and lever for manual angling?

Thanks

Yup, that is basically it. If you have the rockshaft assembly for your 44 blower on your tractor already, you can hook up the 48 blade to it. I have an extra connector rod (part 18 and associated connector parts) and an extra hitch that came with the blade. I use the connector rod, but store the hitch (unused).

Not sure if a dealer will sell you just the blade, but I assume so. They do sell the manual angling parts, from what others have noted in other threads (as a kit, I think). Might be interesting to check the price anyway.

Thanks for the info.

I am seeing blades with what looks like a very long double bracket that I believe will attach to the tractor frame. I don't need this bracket, right?

I am going to talk to the dealer and see if he will just sell me the blade, angling kit and what ever else I need to make it work on my X500. I am hoping it won't be much more than $400.

So I spoke with the dealer yesterday and its not going to work out. The new blades come in a box with all the extra stuff, quicktach, rockshaft, ect. that I don't need. So then we looked on the parts breakdown. Apperently there's 1 bracket and 1 larger metal piece that I need. The large metal piece goes between the blade and the quicktach and is sort of triangular. Anyway, those 2 pieces together cost $375. Then the just the mold board is $450 and I would still need to get all the little bits and pieces. Its cheaper to spend the $800, blade complete in box and have extra pieces.

So they have my name and number if a used blade comes in, otherwise I will still be seaching the interweb for one.

I think he meant the hitch/cradle piece that attaches to the tractor and does the lifting of the blade/blower (the one that goes where the mower deck front arms pin to).
