Hope no animal life is harmed after grazing on your clippings... So if it'll turn your finger black with one stroke how may blades of grass will it take to remove it all? Maybe 10 minutes worth? We'll sure want a full report on that stuff! :ROF

I coated my 48C deck and the mulching attachment with POR 15 this year. Looking forward to seeing if it reduces the grass buildup any. It was my Uncle's 345 I got last year. He didn't clean out underneath very much and the rust showed it. Nine years of negliect before I got it. If nothing else, hope I arrested the rust problem.
I pull up on my car ramps after every mowing to clean the worse of the grass out. Will be interesting to monitor how it works.

Good choice on the POR15. I used it on my Kubota's deck last spring. After a full season of mowing, it showed no signs of wear and the grass did not stick as much. What did stick was easier to remove.

This graphite paint is so incredibly slick, that I hope that just kicking the deck will drop all the green muck. If not then perhaps it will hose down a little easier.
I will let you all know how the paint holds up too, but you will have to wait for results until after this summer, unless it is such a disaster that I indeed leave a black trail in the grass.:Stop:

I've had good results with Scott's new anti-stick fertilizer. Prevents clumping and about 90% less sticking than before. Seems to add an ionic charge to the clippings which repel against metal. Hot thing in the commercial world.

I did fall off the turnip truck.... but NOT yesterday.... even Hydro ain't gonna fall for that one... They can't make a TV set that repels dust and now you say there's "charged grass" that won't stick to mower decks...???? NAWWWWWWW! :ROF

You gotta admit Harold, ya' had to read it twice didn't ya? He almost had me running to the hardware store for a few bags! lol :)

"Now that's funny that is right there, I don't care who you are"

I have to admit that I embellished a thought in a moment of humor.:sidelaugh
I apologize if anyone was offended. Just seemed reasonable, as an alternative to all this work to make the deck slick, to work from the other end to get the grass not to stick in the first place.

Now let's just think a minute here.... Three spinning blades made out of just the right alloy metal... a mower deck of carbon fiber with cast in printed circuit... a digital signal generator running off the tractor electrical system....

DECK SELF CLEANING SYSTEM INSTRUCTIONS
1. Turn PTO switch to "OFF".
2. Allow blades to completely stop rotating.
3. While remaining safely insulated on the operator's seat with engine running at full throttle, properly fit "Flashover Protection Goggle" (supplied), pre-arm DSCS switch and wait for indication "3 Green Lights and Pressure" readout to appear on backlit LCD screen in goggle. (may take up to 7 minutes)
4. At this time be sure 5 point seat belt harness is still properly adjusted, all beverage containers are returned to the "Liquid Control Cup Holder" before opening "Detonation Activity Switch Cover".
5. With middle finger of right hand, flip open "Detonation Activity Switch Cover" while pressing all 4 spring loaded DSCS toggle switches forward simultaniously with palm of left hand.
6. After certain final safety radius check of 150' is being clearly maintained around machine, arm "Master Degaussing Switch Timer Pedal" with left foot by depressing ONLY ONCE! (Warning: Failure to follow this instruction exactly may cause unwanted high voltage corona activity in tractor battery area resulting in damage to tractor finish not covered by warranty!)
7. With heel of right foot move "Grass Repulsion Lever" to rear and hold.
8. Within 45 seconds high decible warning buzzer will come on with warbling hi-lo signal indicating system is performing the "Countdown to Green" system circuit self check.
9. When system self check is complete warbling signal will be replaced by sustained one minute duration siren indicating "Internal Booster Ignition System Armed".
10. After siren stops there will be a 20 second pause for internal circuit staging followed by "Deck Self Cleaning System Auto Sequence Start" appearing on goggle readout screen.
11. All power is now switched internally to mower deck coordinating computer. At "T-minus 1" from the audible countdown speaker, tractor battery umbilical will automatically disconnect, tractor and deck will rise to full cleaning height (varies by regional altitude and barometric pressure) and self cleaning will take place at apogee of ascension azimuth.

IMPORTANT: After landing remain on tractor seat until all warning buzzers stop and siren sounds a 30 second unbroken signal of "ALL CLEAR".

It is recommended that a thorough "Walk Around" is perfomed after cleaning. Make sure any remaining embers are completely extinguished and there are no loose wires visible or smoke eminating from any part of tractor. Deck spindles zerk fittings should be greased at this time. (If so equipped.)

THERE! You've just utilized the very latest in automatic mower deck cleaning technology! BE PROUD! Not only did you pay the most to buy the best but you have shown the entire neighborhood how very "smart" our valued customers are! Your hands are clean and free of skin damage! You have no nasty scraper cuts or abrasions! AND there's no chance of rusting out your prized mower deck with some nasty garden hose cleaning method like your dopey neighbor does! PLUS... you'll be the topic of conversation for months to come!

(This option is not available in Alaska or New Jersey without factory modification Bundle #176544 due to HAARP frequency interference possibilities. See your dealer for details.)

HAROLD! Go find something to do!!!

Actually, that is the most creative work I have read in sometime. I will mention though, that of the 30+ different types of aircraft I've flown over the past 37 years none holds a candle to that starting procedure!

Having too much fun here,
Dave

OK gang,

Went out today to knock the tops off the high stuff, mulch leaves and SMALL sticks, blow dust, yadda,yadda,yadda.......

Well the POR 15 looks like it doesn't like staying in some areas of the deck. It is already gone from the area behind the blades, towards the rear. It did stay on the mulching plate for the most part. I must admit, it was dusty out there but I don't have any sand here just dirt where the grass hasn't really come up yet.

Will report back after having normal grass to mow.

Dave,
Just a quick question. Did you prep the deck before you coated it with the Por15? Did you use the "Marine Clean" and "Metal-Ready" solvents on the deck? Also did you apply Por15 over any painted surfaces? I just got a super starter kit from Por15 to coat my deck, so I would like to know how you did yours. I contacted Por15 and they told me Por15 should be applied to either rusty metal or bare metal. It will not stick well to a painted surface. Thanks for the info. :trink39:

Hi Grandpa,
No I did not and maybe I should have. Where it came off was pretty much bare metal. Where it was rusted it is still there. There was a little bit of old paint that I did not wire brush completely off but it is not in a high impact area. It was the rounded area where the spindles are. It appears to still be intact there. The heavy rust was wire brushed. It seems good but way too early to tell.
My suggestion is to do what they recommend. I probably should have. I will be happy if it stays on the rust and it sounded like it would without the prep. I won't need to mow for another week or so this early in the season but will report how it holds up.
If it comes off this season I will attempt again next year with the prep work.
Good luck!
Dave
BTW, I see you have a Simplicity. I have a 1967 2010 that does all the HARD work around here. I've had it for 20 years.

Hi I have a package with POR-15 on my doorstep today.

Im planning on taking my angle grinder with cup wire brush wheel to the bottom of the deck to metal prep. I also bought their paint strip spray, so Im going to take ALL paint off the deck bottom. Also got the other two prep sprays (degreaser and etching stuff).

I have high hopes for this stuff. I bought the regular black color Por15... going to do 2-3 coats.

I think the theory about paint removal is that if the POR15 cannot hit the bare metal or rust, the rate limiting factor would be the paint it bonds to. Therefore the old paint is in contact with the rust, which will prevent the por15 from doing what its made to do.

Ill post pics and update to all. Please do same.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Hi Tom,
I'm going to try to get to my deck this coming week or weekend. I was going to take some pics also and do a little write up on coating the deck with Por15. Don't know whether to post to this thread or start a new thread under the Round Table in this section. BTW, did you get the manual?:trink39:

I hope you guys can figure this one out!!! Last year on my X485 I tried new JD paint, the Graphite paint, and last but not least I rolled on truck bed liner trying to protect the botttom of the deck and make it easier to clean.
At the end of the season... each one was gone and it looked about like when I started. :banghead3 (I used a wire wheel on a 4" grinder and mineral spirits to clean the deck to bare metal before each application)
