Any of the silver 14 series Kawasaki powered JDs (14SB, 14SE and so on). They never made any better than them. The Gravely is very nice but I would put that in the 2 wheel garden tractor class you can mow with but not a walk behind mower. Roger

I nominated the Gravely because I never had a walk behind mower before.

The caster front wheels makes the machine so maneuverable, it will do a postage stamp lawn, or a 1/4 acre.

Those casters will let it trim better than I can weedeat, and it converts from true side discharge to a true rear discharge mulching mower.

:dunno:

I just bought it a couple weeks ago!! :bananapow

I am gonna really hate it when the :snowing: and that machine will have to stay in the shed!!

:crybaby:

Very nice ! I'm a model L "purist" ( Gravely engines, please !), but that is a nice machine - still using the Model L transmission/axle.

Best lawn & garden tractor ever !

5. Snapper Steel Deck Commercials with WR engines 2 and 4 cycle
6. Lawn Boy push D400 series
7. Sabre Series Deeres (JS61/62/63)
8. Lawn Boy M series

These are my votes at least...

Im going strictly with home mowers.

My top 5.......
Honorable mention. Honda HRR216VLA. May be one of the best home owner mowers for value and price today.

5- D series Lawnboy non self propelled, aluminum deck. I have not used a lawnboy (I know thats crazy being on this forum) so I don't have a number. I highly respect the build quality and longevity of the deck design.

4- Toro 26682. I really like the combo with the Suzuki 2 cycle. Great cut and ease of use. The deck is thiner than the traditional toro deck, which has brought it lower in my count.

3- John Deere 14/jx with the Kawasaki. Great all around mower that does everything you ask it to do.

2- Toro 20044. The Kawasaki fc150v and Toro 3 speed may be one of the best combos. The blade speed is higher, which allows for superb mulching and great bagging without switching blades.

1- Toro 20622 with newer trans ('88 and up). The Suzuki 4 cycle is a wonderful engine. This may be one of the most all around durable full featured mowers. The basic deck is still used in some of the best commercial mowers to this day.

Is it thinner? I've never noticed any difference. All my Toros with cracked decks have been the Recycler or Whirlwind decks.

I also think the Honda HRX217 is the best non-commercial mower you can buy today...but I prefer my Toros and Deeres.

At the base of the deck the casting is "hollow". I had one that split from the bolt that holds the metal deflector under the chute, and one that broke the outer lip off both sides.

Lawn Boy 5247 or 7268. Both f engines, 19" and 21" cut respectively. My go to trimmers.

Another one for early D400 Lawn Boy push mowers.
