Got this from my brother. He was looking at a Ford 4000 he found on Craigslist and the PO also had this. For fixing his Ford LGT 100, he gave it to me.

There is beauty under all that barn crud. Looks like there may be a coating of rust proofing on that rear end. The tins and the dash look good too.

This 990 next up for the workshop. All I know bout this one is she spins not stuck. Have yet to put a battery in it. I have a few sleeve hitch implements, can I use those on the 3 point with an adapter, or would it be best to get cat o implements?

I would make an adapter to your current implements.

Sounds good on the adaptor, was wondering if that would place the implements out too far behind the tractor. So far I have a Brinly 10" plow, single gang disk, An old Brinly harrow off a walkbehind, a Wheel Horse cultivator, and a Craftsman 42" rear grader blade. It is very straight and no dents anywhere, but the dash has the usual cracks in the corners. Is the paint on this 990 the correct color? I know for sure it's been rattlecaned Silver as it is now. The paint has runs all over, not done very well. I'm hopin a total restore as much as the $$$$$ allows. One of the first things to do is block in the hole in the frame. Frame is not cracked now but don't want it to either. I also may have a line on rear tires. A local Goodyear dealer say they have 27-8.5-15 ags and 27-10.5-15 turfs, 36 of each at their warehouse in Nashville. $140 ea on the ags and $200 on the turfs, $36.00 to mount and load tires with antifreeze.

I would say the original color was red by seeing the headlight bezel. Those tires should mount to the rims just fine.

The 990's sold under the MTD name were painted silver.

Looks like old timer that liked Rustoleum silver must have had that. I knew someone in past who put that on anything starting to rust, no matter what the orig color was!! I see you have some little fender braces under back side of them. Mine doesn't, and fenders are weak and bending down there. My Wheelhorse GT14 had similar, and I made one for it and is better. Guess I'll make some for the 990 too. Is that stock or someone else added them?? First one I've seen with them in all the guy's pix here.

My 1974 990 has fender braces as well. I think the first owner built them.
