I took yesterday off from work so Michelle and I could take Emma to a Childrens museum in Holyoke Mass. On the way there, I drove past the guys house that I traded my First BG/MS motor too (he has a Sears loader and another Onan model tractor) and I told Michelle, "Man I wish I could get that Loader from him!" then I drove a little further down the road, and saw a pretty good condition Suburban 725 at a garage and I said "Man that is one tractor I really want to get!" - of course, now I was getting funny looks from the passenger seat ... So now I know where I can go to look for a 725 if I so desire- I have no idea of the condition or if they want to part with it, but it may be worth a looksee-

so after we got back from the museum, I took out the SS18 and mowed the grass. I had previously put the origianl DD13 carb back on it before the last time I mowed, and it was running terrific at high throttle, but surging at idle- so I spent 30 seconds adjusting the needles, and voila! it runs PERFECT thorugh all RPM's!

The issue I had with it was under the throttle plate, there are 2 tiny holes- one is where the tip of the idle needle comes into the throat of the carb, and the other one actually is for fuel... The fuel hole is attached to the idle circuit in the carb and the needle allows the fuel to mix with air when you move the needle in and out. I cleaned out the hole with a piece of wire after the carb had soaked in carb cleaner for 2 weeks, and that was the main problem in that carb. Because it had all that green sludge in the carb, it varnished the hole shut and it was not allowing fuel to flow into the throat of the carb regardless of where the idle screw was.

I mowed the yard varying the throttle with no isses whatsoever!
Then I took out Jolene and plowed the hills in my garden flat to prepare for moldboard and tilling. Jolene was running crappy though, snd I fear I need to clean that carb again, or just re-adjust it...

So the sad of the day was that I got all worked up over the 725 I saw and the guy that I know has a loader, and that Jolene was running crappy, BUT the happy was that I got seat time and got my SS18 running perfectly!

Glad you got the 18 going well. As for Jolene, carb clean really isn't that difficult (as you know) so that's not bad.

As for the loader/725 issue....can't help ya there. You should see the X730 at the local JD dealer. I can't walk by that for fear of getting drool all over myself again. ;)

i just tell her i can make money. sometimes that works. i stopped at local onan parts dealer and looked at geting new gaskets for the fuel pump. turns out it wasnt put toget right and the fuel line was cloged at the tank. i found that out when i put me vaccum pump on the fuel line and nothing came out. she starts right and stays running now. im thinking about putting a magnet in the fuel tank to catch whatever rust is in there. so far today is a good day

did you put a filter inline yet?

What happens when you pull the choke out at high throttle?

Take your fuel pump apart and put some oil on all the gaskets and reassemble. It will pump as new

UPDATE!! me being the craft guy I am used google maps at the street view and followed my route to the Holyoke museum to find the garage (visually) where the DB 725 was stored- I called the garage, and the guy that owns it called me back- He said $150 and it's mine- runs and drives, needs carb cleaning, has skinny ags and no attachments. But I am going to try to get it in the next couple weeks! I am so excited!!! 64 David Bradley here I come!!!

At least now I can stop bugging Rick and Johnny about their tractors :D

Now to make some $$$....

That sounds like a deal :) Good luck and don't forget pictures are a must........

I am trying to get some pics now... I only saw it driving by with my wife... I would have stopped if I was alone. I am trying to get a trade together for him because he said his kids do tractor pulls, so I may try to trade a set of loaded ags for the tractor- Save myself some cash :D

Well here are some pics- so far it looks like it's pretty good to me, ags, chains, and some sort of do-hickey in the mule slot...

Now I just hope it stays round long enough for me to get it... He isn't advertising it, so hopefully no one scoops it up before I do :D

Kc, i will let you know when I get out that way. Maybe Saturday, but we will see... Depends on the funds.
