Hi,
Last winter I bought and rebuilt a 1977 Case 446. It came with among other attachments a back blade. It is 60 inches wide, must weigh 150lbs or more and attaches to my 3 point hitch. I decided to sand it down and repaint it in the colors I found on it. The adjustable yoke is white and the blade is black. I had assumed it was an old Brinly-Hardy blade but I am unable to find one from their product line that resembles this one. One of the posters on the Case forum said he thought it looked like a Bolens set up. The blade is adjustable both horizontally and vertically and the blade can be taken off the yoke. The Case forum poster said he thought that the yoke could also be attached to a rake. I am wondering if anyone on this forum has any ideas.
Thanks

I have the same back blade, but mine doesn't look that pretty. Nice job!!!

Mine came with my 1977 MF1655 when I bought it used in 1982, and I believe that it is a Brinly from that era. I added trays on either side to carry a pair of 65 lb plates for extra weight for scraping the driveway smooth in the winter.

Thanks OB,

I am fairly new at this so I am not sure about lift tabs. Are they the arms on the yoke that hold the rod that fits into the arms on the 3 pt ? Do you have a pic of the Sears blade? or should I ask someone over at that forum?

Thanks again! :thanku:

Great,
A very close match, mine does not have the U shaped piece up front but other than that it looks a match. The blade is identical except mine is 60 inches from side to side. Do you think Brinly made it for Sears?
Thanks

They are too close in design so they had to be made by the same company. I'll need a mdl# to research what company made it.

Hi,
Any ideas where I should look for a model number or any other id mark....When I painted it nothing was obvious. :thanku:
I'm sorry I wasn't clear. I meant for Searstractor to hopefully supply us with model number from his unit and go from there.

Ahhh yes,
Amazingly, on the same day this post was made, I purchased a Bolens tractor that came with this exact blade...right down to the same color scheme.
I just accidently found this post tonight while I was trying to identify mine!

I bet its a Brinly. The reason I say this is because the decals on either side, (one big, one small), are decaying in the same way the decals disintegrated on my Brinly disc plow that I owned a couple of years ago.

I would be interested in getting some opinions what you guys think this blade is worth. It's the heaviest design I've seen in a long time.

Does anyone have any rough ideas what Rbeguelin's rear blade would be worth?
What it's worth or how much someone is willing to pay for it, or how much someone will sell it for?

Priceless, or $50, or $500. It all depends on your perspective.

This 5' blade on a GT is priceless. It will angle to either side, can be tilted indepently from the 3PH top link, and then fine tuned with the top link, and it can be flipped over for pushing in reverse. The best part is that it rides very close to the back of the tractor reducing the space needed to store the combination and giving better control for tight manoeuvering in close quarters. I enjoy mine on my MF1655 a lot more than the same width King Kutter, which doesn't have the added extra tilt feature and that sticks out about an extra 1.5' behind my MF GC2310.

If you can find one for $50, buy it.

If you own one, there aren't that many around and you can't get a new one that tucks in that close behind the tractor. It's an antique, but a useable antique. Maybe, if you caught me in the right mood, I might part with mine for $500, but I doubt it. Too hard to find a replacement that is equal.

Thanks for the info TUDOR.

I was just looking at mine much closer today.
The paint is great.
Nothing is bent or dented.
Nothing is wobbled out.
The replaceable cutting edges look as though they have never hit the ground. Even the tips on the ends are perfect.

That being said, I think I'll keep it!

Perhaps I will sell the snow blower and front pto off of my Bolens G174. The snow blower and pto work fine... but we don't get that much snow around here.

Thanks for the ifo everybody.

In anticipation of winter I mounted the blade just to see how it works. I did not think about flipping it over to plow in reverse Thanks Tudor! Being 5' wide I do have to pay a little more attention but once I angled it it didn't extend past the tires by more than a few inches on each side. I am looking to get wheel weights for my tractor but with this on the back it certainly adds a lot of weight on its own.

Tempting, very tempting. I have another 1655 that I want to put the snowblower on and that blade will complement the 48" blower quite nicely. I know this because the blower came off my old 1655 before I installed the loader.

I'm due for another vacation trip, but pension income isn't meeting hobby expenses just now.

<sigh> So close and yet so far!
