This is my Suburban. I picked it up from my dad who took it in on trade for a new mower. It was in fair mechanical condition and ran okay so it was used for one summer. This fall the wife and I purchased an acreage and our yard more than tripled. I figured I had better work out the bugs before it was too late. This is her before I started.
From what I could tell, this is an all original tractor. The decals look to be original and the paint is faded, but has not been re-done. She was a good candidate for a restoration.
The motor used some oil so it has been the main issue. It was stripped down and cleaned thoroughly in our shop's hot vat.
The head was decked .060" on our mill and cc'd at 46cc creating a 10:1 compression ratio. The cylinder was honed out and a new .010" over piston fitted. Since rings are rare as hens teeth for this thing, I went to our Hastings book and found that rings from a 1955 Lincoln V-8 are an exact match, so a set was ordered in .020" over and end gapped accordingly. The valve seats were given a 3 angle job and the valves had the faces resurfaced.
