Sold my Hot Tub to a friend, but he had no way to get it .. So I offered to deliver it ..

My small trailer is down for repairs .. So I had break out the big one !!

Once the 8.5' x 8.5' Hot tub was loaded on the rear tilting section of the trailer, there was negative tongue weight .. not a safe way to haul a trailer :Stop::Stop:

Problem solved with about 700-800 lbs of wet red oak wood !!

Worked GREAT.. Sometimes you just have to improvise :fing32:

I bought this trailer brand new in 2009 .. it has less then 1000 miles on it .. and 300 were from hauling it home from NC where I bought it factory direct.

14K lb Trailer, and the rear 2/3's tilt http://www.kaufmantrailers.com/heav...e/Tilt-Trailers/14,000-GVWR---22-ft.-Wood-Tilt-with-Fixed-Deck-Trailer-p13.html
I ordered it with White Oak decking rather then the PT Pine .. also had them add more tie down points, and more cross members ..

Nice trailer!

I'm jealous of your red oak. I spent some time cutting what I thought was big red oak... The stuff you have is huge!

How big in diameter was that tree at the base?

Nice trailer! I'm guessin that's some of the craigslist freebie firewood you recently scored?

How's that oak floor holding up? My trailer is due for floor replacement and oak in my area is a readily available option to treated lumber

When I bring the dump trailer out, I can tow that one back home, right?:D
Scott, if you bring that "Towmaster dump trailer" to me, you can have the trailer pictured above !! I'll even throw is a Large Frame Bolens of your choice.

That's using the ole noodle Ken! How does the van like towing that monster?
It handles it well Mike, in towing mode. Having a one ton van really helps. I pulled the trailer home from NC empty with my explorer. That wasn't easy, but worked ok.

Bill, I did not measure it, but I'm guessing 54"- 60" across. I had a heck of a time loading up the lower 10' of the tree, those rounds were at least 500-600 lbs I'm guessing.

I'll go with untreated rough cut white oak everytime for trailer decking ! White oak not red.

My small tilt trailer is being repaired and redecked rite now (when I get time) the original 13 Y/O white oak decking was surprising in decent shape, after being left outside its entire life. The steel under the deck is the reason I pulled it.

The steel pan has rusted out pretty bad, I have to pick up a sheet of 1/4" plate and some 4x4 angle to get it fixed. I have the new 6/4 white oak decking to install once it's fixed.

Look for small saw mills, they will often cut what you need to your specs :fing32: I found a guy who cut what I wanted for $70.00. Better and cheaper then PT pine IMHO.

Why didn't you load the hot tub on the front portion. You could also provide wooden blocking ( Railroad ties) and place it directly over the wheels ... I just had to ask ??
The front section doesn't tilt, and there it a spare tire holder welded to the frame up near the front.
Having it on the rear made it real easy to load. Just backed the trailer up to the deck it was on, and it slid rite onto the trailer.

Unloading it was real easy too, pulled the 2 tilt pins, it slid off real easy, and then I just pulled out from under it.

The guy who bought it was amazed how well it worked. I'm waiting for him to let me know when he gets it in his back yard and leveled up, then I'm going to go wire it for him.

Bryan (pigsitter) asked about white oak for trailer decking.

This pic is 13-14 yo untreated white oak that was just pulled off my small tilt trailer. Spent its entire life outside, and was bolted down to a heavy gauge steel pan. The pan is rusted badly, but the wood is in pretty good shape.
