Well, I finally got the Super Lugs mounted for use with the snow thrower this winter. They are beefier than I expected!

I had thought about installing them myself, but knew it would be a pain in the butt so I took it to a local tractor/equipment dealer to have them mounted 'professionally'.

'Course, when I get home after having them mounted, I realize they gave me 2 left mounts! What the heck. I brought it back the next day over lunch (wasted more time, more driving, more headache) and asked them to discount the service for one of the tires. They boss wanted to play hardball and basically said no. Irritating. It's a service, and it cost them nothing to cut $15 off the bill other than the $2-3 it cost them to pay the kid who mounted them. Apparently $15 is more important than providing good service and their reputation. I have little tolerance for poor service and rude companies.

Anyways the boss has one of his cronys remount the tire. As the worker is headed out to the shop with my tire, he mumbles "why can you just mount it on the left"....are you kidding me? I just proceed to unhappily wait 20 minutes while the remount the tire.

The tires done, and I'm done with this place. I go to grab my tire and there are huge gashes on the inward facing side of the rim near the spindle hole. I grabbed the thing, took it back to the bosses desk and said 'here is another reason I didn't want a re-mount". He then became sympathetic and refunded all my money which I thanked him for. I would have much rather paid full price for a non-gouged rim and only 1 trip to the place though :banghead3.

Well, anyways a couple of you asked that I posted pics with the Super Lugs mounted, here she is! Next I'm planning to fill them up with fluid. Maybe this weekend... Tips welcome!

It was their fault they were mounted wrong the first time should have done it for free. They had someone who had never mounted tractor tires before do it, they should have told him how to mount them.

My thoughts as well. I wanted to talk to the boss and recommend that they educate their workers after hearing the worker say 'why not just mount on left..." as he was walking out, but we were already not seeing eye to eye on things and I didn't think it would come off right.

Mistakes happen, but when the customer has to bear the burden the biz needs to step up and overcompensate for the mistake - especially when time/gas/travel/ are on the burden of the customer...

Anyways, is what it is... not the end of the world of course.

I too, many years ago took a pair of large farm tractor wheels to a shop to get ag tires mounted and the guy mounted one side wrong. When I pointed it out to him, he could not understand the error, insisting that I should have told him how to mount them if I wanted them mounted a particular way. I guess if they were rocket scientists, they wouldn't be working at a tire shop.

True!

You know, when I was waiting to have them start mounting the tires on my first trip to the store I literally was going to ask the guy at the counter "They know which way to mount them, right :)?"....But I thought it would be silly/obvious/insulting to their intelligence so I didn't say anything haha. After all I was at a specialty store (not big box) packed with giant oversized lawn tractors, small tractors and all sorts of other power equipment.

Next time I will ask and check before leaving - lesson learned...

Looks good, I mounted my Tru Powers my self, and Knowing that I had to reverse one..... I didn't. Ended up re mounting it again. I liken it to wrestling alligators.

Those look MEAN! Makes me want to put a pair on my YS4500.

I work for a tractor/equiment dealership and we all too often get a pallet of 4 mounted tires right from the warehouse with two left or right rear/front tires. Doesn't make us very happy to have to remount factory fresh tires. It's almost impossible to not leave some small evidence they have been worked with.

Good thing I read entire thread first---I was about to say "at least their mounted in the right direction." I see'um mounted backasswards alot--always wondered why?Now I know--they don't know the right way!! Looks great,I should get me a set.

Nice!

If you end up wanting a pair, here is a KILLER deal! They were on sale at 10% off the other day, too. (I got mine elsewhere but they priced matched RK).

Always liked the look of those super lugs. I have one concern with my Craftsman Pro though. Jay, do you have a 42" deck and does it clear the lug tire? With my 42" deck and the stock turf tires I have about 1/8" clearance on the 20x10x8 right rear tire with the deck all the way up. I wondered if the lugs might just have a little larger diameter and rub on the deck.

Hi Steve,

Yep, I have a 42" deck.

The deck clears the tires (20x10-8, same as stock but beefier) in all deck positions except 6 (1,2,3,4,5 are good). I cut at 5, so it works out pretty good for my needs.

Well, with all the replys, I still dont understand what 2 left mounts are. I have a new set of ag tires and would like to know. After all, MTF is about asking questions. Is there a outside wall and inside wall? Your tractor looks great. I'll tell ya, people have no problem taking your money and sticking you with what ever comes down the pike. Like a fast food joint at lunch time. Thanks, John:trink39:

Say," not to be raining on your parade" or anything ,but wouldn't filling them with fluid void your transmission warrenty? We used to put tubes in then fill the tubes with anti-freeze, but the new transmissions are not anywhere near as strong as the ST Series, Sears Craftsman's are yet.
Excellent tires though! What size did you have to order 20x 10?

Haha, no problem asking! You're right, it is a place to ask questions :00000057:

Basically they put one tire on the rim facing the right way, and the other the wrong way. These treads are asymmetrical (they have an arrow pattern so there is a correct and an incorrect way to install them on the rim, the arrow should face forward).

Also note that the rims are asymmetrical. There is an inside and an outside of the rim. They only go on one way.

2 left mounts means that you when you put the rims/tires on the tractor, the left tire would have the tread facing the correct direction (arrows point forward), and the right side of the tractor would have the tread going in the wrong direction (arrows would face towards the rear of the tractor). The tires are both prepared for the left side of the tractor, not one for left and one for right.

I'm not sure, but that would be kind of silly if wheel weights are considered ok for the tranny and fluid is not. Fluid would actually be better on the tranny due to less momentum in the tires from a rotational torque standpoint.

Anyone know the answer on this off hand? I'd have to check the paperwork...
