On the same planet, but far, far away from your setup, I have a couple groundsmasters myself.
Used the 60" one the summer before last but between the oil burning & dripping from the Onan 20hp, I decided to swap engines out of my 50" model. (at 2219 hours, it's no big suprise) Haven't actually done it yet, but its on the front burner for this winter. (The 48" onan 20hp has 1000hrs and 125lbs compression on both cylinders)
Bought them at an auction a couple of years ago along with a 1450 Cub.

While they won't officially all fit on a 16 foot car trailer, they did manage to all ride home anyway. I got the first for $65 and that paved the way to buy the one next to it for $25. I was just buying them for the 20hp onans, but they both actually run though I'm missing a driveshaft and a deck wheel to have them both up & mowing. Going to blast & paint the 60" before putting it back together.
Definately the most comfortable mower I have ever used, the treadle pedal is great anf the steering is effortless with all the weight on the front. It's a tad slow though compared to some but the cut & manuverability make it my #1 cutter..when it's back online anyway.
Mine will definately get stuck in any soft place. By the time it spins, raising the deck is too late. Will probably go with 10" bar tires after the rebuild.
Do your bigger decks use those expensive hex belts too?

I have the junior to yours a Toro 117. Its my 2nd one. I wore out the first one. They are built very well.

I have a groundsmaster 220 that one of my friends retrieved from a salvage yard it does not look the prettiest from sitting out side in the weather but it is on the list for a overhaul it has the 52 in deck but it will mow grass in a hurry and out of the mowers I have owned and used it cuts the fastest.

I've been having a heck of a time finding parts for it, nothing major either - belts, air and oil filters, throttle cable etc... , found some at Partstree - no belts though, same with Toro.
Anyone have ideas?
thanks again

I may be able to help with a throttle cable for a diesel (322/ 325) with the mitsubishi motor. I have about 5 control panel assemblys if you need any of those parts too. Attached are a few pics of my hotrod..its a 1999 with 4wd. I have had it a few years. It cuts well with the recycler deck and i have the debris blower for the fall which is sweet.. and of course the cab/snowblower which is alot of fun with the electric spout and shute controls. I am hoping for a snowy winter! I also have that half restored machine thats in that indoor pic. I tore it down to bare frame and painted it/ new bushings.. the works. I have a motor for it that i am trying to get in soon.

I found the throttle cable at a local snowmachine repair shop.

The PTO runs counter clockwise and most blowers run clockwise. Some like Kubota run counterclockwise.

I've been looking for a PTO reverser without much luck. My next attempt is to configure some type of snowmobile reverser but then I would be back to belt drive but I could then centre the snowblower. I have a feeling I may not be blowing snow with it this year at this pace.

Learning lots though.

Buickgsman that is a sweet machine; heated and all. Would love to find a blower like that. I could have purchased an older version of your machine with cab and all but I had already purchased mine. In retrospect, I would be blowing snow in the comfort of a cab. oh well hindsight is always 20-20.

Thanks for the pics, real nice.

Well I've just sold the ford blower, too much trouble to adapt. I've been looking all over for a reverse transmission from an old snowmobile without any luck. The idea was, since the blower turns clock wise as opposed to the counter clock wise (CCW) of the Toro, to put the reverse tranny chain and sprocket and centre the blower. I wasn't having any luck finding the reverse tranny.
So now I may have found a blower that is made for the unit but the shipping costs may be more than the blower itself. If that fails i found a Case single stage 48" that turns CCW. Of course it would need to be adapted and would likely need a wing on the left side of the blower. So the Toro blower would definitely be the best bet.
Do you folks have any idea how shipping works for such a big piece of equipment?

Thought about it some more - anyone around live in Philadelphia PA be willing to have a look at it for me before I drop the cash and drive 7 to 8 hours to go get it. It sure would be appreciated. I know it's a lot to ask but that's the only thing i can think of other than buying sight unseen. Don't like doing that much.

On my first Toro 117 GM I bought a 54" Warn ATV blade, cut the frame and used some heavy 6"x 8" rectangular tube steel to mount the blade to the 117s lift arms. I added lugged tires to the front. It worked fairly well but I had to add weight to the front and the angle of the blade was manual. For one winter I did a few driveways. Man was that a cold job to do especially after the cold front had passed. A cab with heat and a blower would be better.

I just bought a snowblower closer to home, hope to pick it up today, not as fancy as a two stage toro blower but it should do. Will have to adapt it like Ray's john deer blower. When I get started I'll post some pics.

I just changed the throttle cable and fuel filter and now the tractor won't idle like it did, it seems to go up and down with the revs.I'm going to try reversing the fuel filter, maybe it's on the wrong way. I hope that's all it is.

Well that snowblower fell through, seller was pitting one interested buyer with another - I got out.

Now the Toro won't start. I have been trying to find ignition parts without luck. Anyone have any advise - I tried NAPA, Benson's (Canada) and the Net. I even have the original part number for the distributor cap and distributor but no one seems to be able to cross-reference it.

Also I checked the compression - 120 across except for # 4 being 92 or 94. Didn't do the wet test so not sure if its rings or valves. But should it matter, it should still run OK with a little less power, right?

hey Buickgsman and Garry (G_West), would you know were I could get my hands on ignition parts for the Groundsmaster 72 - my model # 30774-51629 - the engine is a R839-46 R8 series -

I tried Partstree, Toro, Continental, no luck on the web sites anyways. I haven't called. Here in Ontario Canada, I tried UAP-NAPA and Benson's - no luck there either.

Any advise or leads will be greatly appreciated.

Maybe I should start a new post - I feel I have maybe highjacked this one. Someone let me know the etiquette of it all please.

Hello Ray,

I just noticed - did you add the wheels to your deck corners or did it come that way. Probably would help prevent some scalping.
What oil do you put in the transfer case on the deck? My book says some models are case oil others are 10W30 - the tag on my deck is long gone - not sure which oil to put in. Any ideas how to tell one deck from the other?

Thanks
