Looks like a Kohler to me. I have the same recoil on my K-161 plus I see a external points cover.

Well, that and it says kohler on it plain as day. I knew that and my fingers typed tecumseh anyway.
Tecky's will do that to you. They will drive you nuts, especially when you're trying to get one to run right!:banghead3

Looked it over for another 5 minutes today. Cas tank is shiney silver inside. Engine pulls hard at the auction ..still does. Of course, spinning the deck and moving forward tell me why.
I guess the pullys are rusty enough they are still spinning the belts even with slack.
The transmission is STILL in gear even with the shifter in reverse, and you can feel it click in and out of gear. It won't roll at all, and part of that might be the brake band rusted, or it might be stuck in a gear.
Further investigation tomorrow.

Well, I got to drive it off the trailer today. For $65, I'm not hurting. I cleaned the points, sprayed carb cleaner in it and it started up.
Put some gas in the tank and it started flooding. Pinched the line off with some vise grips, pulled the retaining bolt off the float bowl and let the gas out. Put it back in and started it up. Took the vise grips off and it never got gas in it again, so the needle & seat, and float pivot need to be cleaned.
Engine sounded good and didn't smoke. It is stuck in 3rd and shifting to another gear just locks it up. So I aired up the tires (they are still up 2 hours later) dragged it around on the trailer and pointed it down the ramps. Sprayed some more carb cleaner in it, gave it a pull while sitting on it and drove it down the ramps in 3rd and off..so it counts as driving it off in my book.
Guess I'll have to take the trans out and see what makes it tick.

Well, I sell garden tractor parts on Ebay. So I guess I'm just a direlect.

I'll give you the days activities and see what you think. I fixed breakfast (eggy in a basket) then snapped some fresh green beans from Aldis while watching the news. My 76yo mother is in the Hospital (hopefully out tomorrow). I had to head over to her house this morning and fold some cloths, them ship 3 items that she sold Sunday and forgot about until last night.
Took them to the P.O. then headed to the Hospital for a visit. (18 mile round trip) and got a call THERE from my inlaws wanting me to head over there and help take a big TV to the repair shop. Did that trip and got home at noon.
Ate lunch then push mowed the front ditch and the side yard and the wet bottoms back by the screen house that were growing up. Transplanted 6 volunteer peach trees, them mowed the yard quick & dirty with the 60" cub (6 ish acres). Just got done and don't have time to start parting the cub I bought last Saturday, so I'll try and do that tomorrow. I have the green beans & potatos I cooked earlier warming back up and after I shower and clean up, I'll eat dinner, then go drive the church bus at 6:20 (hour and a half from now.
So Iguess Iactually didn't work today. Tomorrow I have to hang around the house until I find out if my mother gets released..I'll probably part the cub with the phone handy, then If i get time I'll go mow the elderly peoples yard I do for free then back to listing what I get removed on Ebay before I take my "Little brother" (Big Bro, Big sisters) to the movies.
Iprobably won't get much done tomorrow either work wise.

lol sounds like you had a busy day..............the reason that I asked about you being retired was all of the sales and auctions that you seem to go to.

Keep up the good work.

Yeah, That's what I do for income. That way I'm free to do some of this stuff I get roped into.

I'm going to post last weeks Ramsey Auction photos in a minute, show the ones that got away. Rugg with front fenders, Midland garden tractor with sulky with stering wheel, Deere 318, 320 and two 430's.
They always have a square block of mowers, cycles atv's and everything else. They had a 5hp horse you could ride. I mean a horse with a tail, not a troy bilt.

I wish I could find a good deal on a 430 like those.........even if I had to spend a little money to get it in tip top shape.
