Hello I am looking at the Kubota Bx Series. I have found a 2003 Kubota with 378 hours on the unit. I am trying to decided if I should just buy this unit it comes with a 48 mowing deck and rear pto tiller that lookes like it never been put in the dirt. I have been looking at new ones on here with loaders. So what I am wanting to know how much trouble would it be i have heard the cost will be around $2500-3000.00

Thanks

John

Welcome to the forum. We have a lot of very knowledgeable Kubota guys on here and I'm sure one of them will be along soon to answer your questions.

Until then, enjoy the rest of the forums. Welcome and have fun. :fing32:

obx,
If I read you right, you are wondering how easy will it be to add a loader to the used BX? I would tell you, if it is already plumbed for a loader, meaning 4 lines are capped on the rightside of the engine, it will be a piece of cake. If you have to have the lines put in, then it would be about $200-$300 for labor and parts--in my opinion.
At any rate, I would advise you to buy used. If this is your first tractor, you won't have to worry about putting any scratches in it. And you don't suffer the depreciation from a new vehicle/toy.
If you enjoy this tractor, you will be trading up in no time.
Good Luck

Welcome aboard John. You say the Kubota is a 2003 w/a 48" MMM. That would narrow it down to either a BX1500, BX1800 or BX1830. You mention a tiller but no FEL.
Am I on the right track here?

378 hrs is barely broke in as these tractors are designed to go 1000's of hrs. If we break down the numbers it appears that the tractor was only used approx 54 hrs a yr (based on 7 yrs). That is believable. I avg approx 100 hrs a yr but I do tasks yr round. At around 50hrs a yr it probably only mowed and the mowing seaon is short in yoru area.

You are indicating a price of $2500 - $3000 for a small 03 BX XXXX with a 48" MMM and tiller. That my friend is a steal which makes me highly suspicious of this deal. That pkg may have run anywhere from $7K to $9K new.
If it does have an FEL it would be even more of a steal.

Is the seller a local dealer or private owner?
It appears you've looked at the unit, whats the condition of the tractor and MMM?
Have you operated it?
Everything work?
At those hrs it shouldn't smoke not make any unusual noises.
I would put it through some paces making sure everything works. At that price it's worth serious consideration.
I haven't priced any FEL's lately but you can add a Woods FEL for around $3K - $4K
If it's a dealer you might ask for FEL pricing.
Let us know
Dave

I think he's saying/asking if adding a FEL would cost around $2,500 - $3,000. Unfortunately, I can't help him answer that question.

The Tractor itself is 2003 bx 1500 with 48 inch mmm and rototiller. asking price is around 5k but i think i can do better. I was just wondering if i could add a loader for around 3k. I priced a new bx1860 around 12 k so If i can put a loader on this one for less i think i will go that way. Next question has any one tried a wood or bush hog brand loader on one of this or should i stick with
kubota??

I've seen the ad your looking at, it appears to be legit (has a local phone number). It will need plumbing for the loader so the price would be in the $3000 - $3200 range.

I agree with what Dave says but would add:
- Ask for the original documentation, manuals and purchasing contract.
- Get the serial number and have your local dealer do a database search for the machines history to see if it has had any issues. Or has been "misplaced".
- When you hand over the cash, have your hand on the hood talking to the owner.

Everything being said. If this was for sale in April someone would have already snatched it up. $5k is a very fair price.
