The 54 inch is designed for the 318 and uses hydraulics, the 42 inch from the 200 series won't work on a 318 without some real modifications! I recommend the power angling blade looking that you're likely to be doing some snow removal with it. Also you will want the hydraulic accumulator valve for your hydraulic ram at the back of the tractor to lock it out of the system. This makes working with the blade much faster since you don't have to wait for a second cylinder to cycle. Blades are at about their highest price right now and I've seen them on eBay for $450 -$650 for the power angling (two hydraulic rams). I'd check Craigslist in your area to see if any are available. Good luck! Oh.....Welcome to the forum!!!!

It will fit to the front of the tractor But as stated you would have to modifie it to take a Hydraulic Cylinder to be able to at least lift it. Because the 42inch Blade or number 43blade was set up for the 110,112 Fender deck models & the 200 through 216 200 series models.

The 54inch Blade made for the following model will fit a 318

300

The only 42 snow plow I see on the JD site is for a full size tractor. I suspect they might be refering to the 43 snow plow on the 200 series, it does not work on the 318 unless modified. I tried to find it on eBay but no luck finding it listed for a 318! Does the picture show hydraulic cylinders on the blade (must have at least 1)?

yes, theres 2 hydraulic cylinders on the blade...for some reason i cant post a link, but if you do a search for:

john deere 2 way hydraulic snow blade 140 317 318 420

it will come up by itself on ebay with a pic.

What you have there northstar1958 is a person that replaced the 54 inch blade with a 42 inch blade off of a 200 series. So you have all the power angling and lift, but the blade is only about as wide as the tractor pushing straight. If you angle it it won't be as wide as the front of the tractor. Not so much an issue for the 318 with power steering but certainly not ideal!

I am assuming the front implement brackets are close to the same as a 317 and if that is so, these guys are absolutely correct. It will take a fair bit of modification to make a 42" blade fit a 318.

If cost and time are no object get a 54" blade with hydraulics on it already. If you are a cheap skate like me, and have narrow sidewalks to clear get a narrower blade and put hydraulics on it!

Sergeant,

I came across a 54" locally that is for the 420. Do you know what makes this blade unique to the 420 and not interchangable with 300 series machine? I want to say the frame is wider.

Thanks and Happy New Year!

The 420 and 430 Blade should fit on say a 318 BUt the Blade for a 400 will not fit on a 318

The seller advises me the width of his 420 plow measures 16" at the mount and his frame is 15 3/4" max outer. My 318 measures 13 3/4" at the frame mount max outer demension. I am to assume that the 420 utilizes a unique frame making front attachments unique to the 420. I was wondering if anyone could confirm this.

There is an adapter to allow a 54" blade from a 318 to mount to the 420/430.
Ahhhh, ok, that makes sense now. The adapter has to make up a 2" difference between the two models.

Thanks!
