If you have heard of the River to river trail, I have hiked it solo twice and once with a friend (160ish miles depending where you start.) My last time was solo from Battery Rock which adds 7 miles, but more road walking. That's my love /hate relationship to hiking. Love it all the time except when I'm hiking it.

Not sure I could do that anymore. They may have to carry me out at some point.
How many miles a day is that anyway?

I like to do my hiking on the back of either a dirt bike or 4x4 ha. My mom, even at 69, is an avid hiker. She has done most of the river to river trail. She really likes the Katy trail over in Missouri. I guess it is a decommissioned rail line so it is a pretty gentle hike when it comes to grade changes. I think it is over 200 miles and she did the whole thing about 5 years ago.

Hey @Banjojelly that sounds like an interesting endeavor...do you know how long it took her?
If memory serves me correctly it took her about two weeks. But there are towns every 10 to 15 miles and she had a route planed so she could stay and sleep at a town or close to one every night. I think a church let her sleep in their sanctuary and I know she slept a few nights on some park benches at some local parks. I am sure you could do it faster. She wasn't in much of a hurry and wanted to see the sights.

No problem, that is the Parking lot near the main falls and Hawkes Cave at Ferne Clyffe state park in the Shawnee National Forest here in So. IL. I go there anytime I get the chance exploring (Bushwhacking). Just went a couple of days ago. View attachment 2619138
Got lost in there one time . The rainbow children had to lead us out .

After the first day I was nursing a blister for a couple of days. I kept stopping for the day at about 10-12. The West side usually goes faster and I average about 20. I have a website up if anyone is interested Rivertorivertrailhike.online in your search window. I have a page for that thru hike in 2022 along with a lot more pages and way too many photos.

S I'll, SE MO, Kentucky are all places on the bucket list. I pull home behind me.
Got use of a tiny house in SE MO when the owners aren't using it.

Are you presently week enders?
We only go when the weather is right. We have an April trip planned for 7 days but not in the Skoolie. We are taking it to Virginia in May. Probably around 9 days. During the summer we will do a lot of overnights in whatever new place or event she finds. We don't do extreme hot or cold.

They are trying to get it basically from KC to St Louis. You can also bike or horse back most of it.

We tried pull behinds and I just don't like towing. We decided to go the Skoolie route with a very small bus that uses a regular gas v8 and has single rear tires. I think it is on a non stretched 1 ton van frame. We have had a great time in our first year. It does have a water heater, small refrigerator, shower and kitchen sink. And one 5' 3" bed for my wife. I use the passenger seat fully reclined or preferably a tent. We have a portable toilet for emergencies but use the campground toilet normally. And a portable A/C (shore power). 25gal grey water tank and 23 gal fresh water. It took some fitting. Also a bulkhead between the front and back to keep the cat in the back.
