Have the 8n apart waiting for some parts to R&R my lift cylinder. I replaced the cam pin and adjusted the linkage with the Zane jig. I am upgrading to the NAA piston. My question is what is the rule of thumb for scratches in the lift cylinder? Mine has some but what is considered too bad?

:ditto::ditto::ditto:what he said, light ones wont hurt but if you can feel them them it is time to hone or replace the cylinder.

I have been doing some additional research and it appears the o-ring and backup o-ring are a standard configuration avaialble at McMaster Carr, Grainger, and MSC (AS568A-330). You have to buy 50 at a time but they are availalble there none the less. If the CNH dealer near my work does not have the good backup o-ring I will just order from one of the distributors above. Thanks for the help, Nate.

i am waiting for the new barrel and the piston to come in. I did take the new backup o-ring and fit it to the old barrel and it fits perfectly. I will let you know how it goes together once i get all the parts. I have 49 more so if anyone needs one or two let me know. :)

I just got everything back together this evening. Everything worked great, the backup orings that I got at McMaster Carr were the correct parts. Much better than the leather one. I have 49 left so if anyone needs one or two let me know. The lift operates very strong once again, zanes jig worked great. Its nice to have a fully functional hydraulic system again. Thanks for all the help. Nate

Nate, where did you get your new hydraulic cylinder from? I bought one and it won't allow the cover to fit the transfercase. People speak about grinding them I would rather just buy one that fits -- Thank you.

Hi, and welcome to MTF!

This thread is over 11 years old and CJN8 hasn't been on here since 2014, so I don't think that he'll see your question or answer it. You might try contacting the people at the "Just 8N's" web site (Redbelly Tractors - Restorations | Just8N's). They have a good reputation for having correct parts for the N series tractors and they will answer your questions.
