I picked this thing up for next to nothing at an auction yesterday, didn't really want it but figured why not. Turns out the serial number says it's a 1949 machine. I thought that was pretty cool, never had anything that old before, but then it occured to me that it might just have an old shroud on it. I didn't think to take more extensive pics of it at the time so next time I'm at the shop I'll look it over more. But does anything jump out as later than 49 in this pic?
2 obvious items I can see right now that I don't think would have been original are the throttle and choke cable, and the remote pto. And now that I think about it, the carb shouldn't have had a provision for a choke cable to begin with. The guy whose estate this came from had a toooon of gravely stuff so it's entirely possible that he could have swapped the carb on it so have the ability to choke it from the standing position.
Here's all the other crap I got that I probably shouldn't have. It's hard to pass up when things are going for 5 and 10 dollars ...
