Getting there Larry!

Spent the day spreading 18 lbs of fire ant killer around the yard, still didn't have enough to treat every mound. Worked on the deck hardware, got most of it done, but had to hold up. It started to rain again.
All I need to complete this project is. 2 belts, 1 Idler pulley, and 3 new gauge wheels. I should be able to get these next week.

Getting Aggravated, Going over the deck pictures and noticed a part I don't have.... well I know I had it, it would have been the first part removed. the cross bar on the front of the mower deck. I have the pins, and have searched the shop several times, and the cleaning trailer, and yard. Not giving up, but I hate it when this happens.

Had supper and came back to the shop. Got the flashlight and started searching deeper. Found it in one of the Craftsman part boxes. Yaa! Paint is drying now, And I have all the parts except for the new ones I'll get next week.

Still pouring rain, and canceled the Texas NASCAR race. Bummer.

Things are slow right now, with the time change, very wet weather, and a lot going on at the day job. It is hard to get motivated to work on anything in the evenings now. I did get all the parts needed to complete this project and make the Grandson happy!

Looks like you are @ the finish line Larry. Coming out great !! :tango_face_smile_bi
I didn't see any of the scalp wheel shims in any of the pics. Did it have them ( 3 ) 1 each. At least they are still avail from JD Parts.

Not sure what the shims are, This is what came in each kit. 3 each, kinda pricy at $22.06 each. All I needed was the wheels, I had to get the kits.

I looked at before pictures, 39 and 40 isn't there either. That diagram doesn't match my deck.

Tonight's progress, I need to get a proper metric socket for the mandrill nuts. I used a standard to remove them, but there was a lot of slop. I'll stop by HF tomorrow.

Yes a dead give away yours is an older version is the metal deflector. ( I missed that)

If anyone is going to work on JD's they need a metric set, especially 10mm. and any modern deck blades need an 18mm to remove them.

For those playing along at home, the top mandrill nuts are NOT metric. I took one of the nuts with me to HF, Finally found that it is a 1-1/8 nut. They only had a full set of impacts with that size. Went to Pep Boys and picked up a single 1-1/8 socket. Pulleys are now attached.

Good progress this evening. I would have liked to had the deck sit out in the Texas Sun a couple days to harden the paint. Had to be careful putting things together. Referred to several tear down pictures, and I think I have it all together. Next is to marry the deck to the tractor, and first chance we get --- A first mow video! In Texas that could happen in December as much rain we are getting now. But I'm optimistic about getting to use the Roper's Snow Blower.
