PTO issues

I was mowing the other day and hit a pot hole in my lawn. Somehow the PTO jumped the little bar that keeps the whole thing from spinning and it stopped the mower deck, but the mower continued to run. I turned it off to take a closer and had it broken the wire harness that connects it to the tractor. The tractor would not turn over and it was dead as a doorman. I tried to splice it together but no luck. I turned the pot switch off to see if that could have been it, but it was off already. Un did the seat switch and checked the wiring else where and it all looks okay. I ordered a new wire but have not received it. Anyone have an explination?

If the pin fails so the PTO can spin, it will pull on the harness very hard, so the wires underneath the insulation can be damaged or even other parts of the harness damaged from pulling on it.

I would suggest doing electrical testing, as the damage may or may not be visible, even when you unwrap the loom from the wires.

And your pto may have an inline diode somewhere in the pto circuit (it may not be obvious what/what it is), which halts the large electric pulse that happens when you turn the pto off (and which damages the switch and other components).
