I'm still looking for a garden tractor and stumbled upon the following sale.

Let me know what you guys think.

Is this already set up to accept implements and what implements would be compatible with this GT?

1978 Wheel Horse D 250 4 Cyl. Renault Compact Garden Tractor - $1750

"This is a 1978 Wheel horse D250 made in Germany by Gutbrod. I bought this off the original owner 3 years ago. I have used it ever since just for mowing. The engine is a four cylinder Renault which starts with ease and has 808 hours on it, but will have more by the time it sells because I am still using it. The valves were adjusted to factory specs. at .006" Intake and .008" exhaust about 50 hours ago, oil changed 5 hours ago. Tractor had a coolant flush, new rear end grease, new hydro lift hose, new cap and rotor, spark plugs, new front pto bearings, and new front pto belts last year. All lights work, tires hold air. The transmission shifts in to all gears hi-lo, differential lock, parking brake, and rear pto all work great. The steering has a little looseness but is normal. The seat has no cracks or rips and is soft but does have three rivets on the trim edge to keep it on the seat pan. None of the wiring has been spliced. As far as i can see this tractor has never been tinkered with. The deck is very solid with new spindle bearings, idler pulleys, and gear box grease this spring. Deck is 60" cut, is very quiet, and cuts nice and flat. The rear fender is plastic and has been repainted along with the deck and lower grill piece"

"There is nothing wrong with this tractor the only reason i'm selling it is because i'm cleaning out my garages and this is taking up to much room"

Sounds like a very well maintained D-250 with lots of new parts. Don't know anything about the 4 cylinder Renault engine. Sounds like it will suck some gas though. These D series had options for rear PTOs and three point hitches. As far as I know, the implements for the D series are unique to that series so you'd be limited there if you're looking for more things to do with this unit - FEL, tiller, plow, etc. Price seems fair if it is as described.

The add says it has a rear PTO but doesn't mention a 3 Pt. hitch. Are the implements hard to come by?

Very tough to get parts for the Renault..........not impossible, but definitely not easy.

It is the biggest Wheel Horse made...........and I am pretty sure the one you are looking at doesn't have the 3 point arms. If by some chance you were able to find the correct one's they are really going to cost you.

Good luck with your decision.

I'd buy it, just because everybody else won't have the same thing as you. Those little renault engines were pretty good. I had one of the Renault cars that had that one in it, and it never gave me any trouble for all the years I owned it.

It does look like a nice one.
The D250 was made in Germany and brought here by WH and rebadged. I read that a total of 2000 were brought over. Rated at 20hp but more like 40hp. Cant remember the co. that made them but a few of them are around also.
All the attachments are unuiqe to the D250 exept for the deck and its actually a JD deck.

To emphasize what refracman said... the D-250 is unique and not comparable to the rest of the D-series tractors. The D-250 is a German built tractor (by Gutbrod), not a Wheel Horse built machine, it's a completely different animal. It had it's own PTO and 3 point, not interchanged with the D-160/180/200. D-250 implements are few and far between.
