If anyone can help, I'd greatly appreciate guidance. In desperate need to get this running!
My 646 died while running after being steam cleaned. Thought it was just wet plug wires, but it would not restart. Tractor is a 1979 and wiring had been "worked" (lots of splices, odd wire combinations) by previous owners. I decided to do a complete rewire and also R&R plug wires, plugs, coil, ammeter, etc.--all Onan OEM; purchased points and condenser, but not installed yet.
With all MX complete I tried to start. Much to my disappointment the engine turns over, but no spark I can see/detect. Did change fuel all fuel lines and filter at same time and verified gas is making it to the carb. I have side-cover points box which I opened only to verify points were not burnt and verify no broken wires. Did not change regulator/rectifier as I did not see this as a player--am I wrong?
Bad points and/or condenser makes most sense to me. Many of you are far more knowledgeable than I am, so please, please help! I'd like to just change out points and condenser, but have been unable to find a step-by-step guide.
As an added note, my wife is anything but happy that I bought an "old" tractor let alone it's not running--we are trying to put a yard in and are depending on this tractor to complete.
Thank you and best regards to all!
Dave
