Hi I have I believe a 1967 or 68 John Deere 2020 utility gas and it has the infamous engine mounted power steering pump. The pump is worn out and keeps blowing the seal and filling the motor with hydraulic oil. The parts are obsolete with the exception of a aftermarket new pump for $2,000. I'm not spending that kind of money on it. I have read that an automotive style power steering pump can be used. Does anyone have any experience doing this conversion and if so how did you plumb it up?

Rebuilt pumps are 1 k with core
Depending on your skills
I would rebuild it myself
It really depends on what the inside looks like
The oil filter system on these old Deere was not the best
Lotta junk went thru
There is a lot of plumbing changes that have to be made before you hang a pump
Stick with original
You will only have to repair it once if done correctly

to be honest Davei think it's beyond fixing and the parts are unavailable from John Deere. I can't believe it'd be that hard to put an automotive style pump on, the steering is open center and there's only 2 lines pressure and return and the line that it got oil from would just get plugged off.

Logged into my Deere account
Need your serial number

You need to take pump apart
Check packing and pump drive gear shaft
Looks like the parts are available
