Hi Folks,

Looking at the brush guard for the X300/X500 series it's not obvious to me how one opens up the hood. It looks like from the pictures I've seen that you have to pull pins and swing it down to open the hood.

Can anyone tell me how this works? Is is a pain in the butt?

Thanks,

NP

You answered both your own question. :fing32:

yes, u have to fold it down. How often do you need to open the hood?? Gas tank is in the rear, so opening the hood should be very minimal.

The JD brush guard I bought for my GX345 has only 2 bars on it, so it is low enough that it doesn't come into contact with the hood when its opened. I'm not sure they still make them. It can be removed by pulling 2 pins.

I got the full brush guard on my X320 and it takes just maybe 30 seconds to pull the pin and the bar that goes all the way across from one side to other and it drops down and you can do anything you need to do. Putting the bar back up maybe another 30 seconds.

It works and does the job I want it to do and that is protect the hood better then the bumper.

One other thing is it is black, I am thinking of painting to match the hood, JD green.

Well, the manual on my new X320 as well as many people here and my dealer say check the oil before operating for the day. So that means the hood will be opened alot. I was just trying to determine if I want to go through the hassle or not. The brush guard sure looks good and I could use one as I have some low hanging stuff to circle around.

Cheers,

That would look NICE! I wish they made one for the 300 series! HEY...I smell a money making opportunity!

That would be once a day for 30 seconds .... Yes??
I have no choice I have spruce and pine trees and other things i mow into and around. Wait till you replace grill or hood $$$$$$$$$$$$ NOW that is a hassle!!
I shouldn't say this but I don't check the oil every mowing more like 3-5 mowings ( Legal Notice: Not saying anybody else should copy me at all) See all the John Deeres in my signature. None ever needed oil between changes ( but your results may vary)
Checked the X520 tonight after 50 hours. Full mark and light honey colored. maybe cause it is Liquid Cooled ( radiator screens etc.)
