I have a chance to purchase an Allis Chalmers 312H with new tires all around, the original cart, 2nd owner tractor with all paper work, diagrams etc. $250.00 Man tells me the electric lift does not work but he hears the motor running so he said maybe a shear pin? Told me it has a slow oil leak but other than these two issues its a winner. I see it on Saturday the 9th. I have a feeling it will end up in the back of my truck. He tells me he bought the unit in 77' or 78' and has maintained it ever since. His reason for selling it is the landscape of his property has become to ornate and cluttered for a tractor.

I also have a Simplicity 3112H and I wonder if the deck of the 312 will be interchangeable with the Simplicity? I am also told that this needs an additive to every fueling as he told me it won't run on unleaded gas?? Any thoughts on this? My 3112H is older and runs on unleaded gas.

I am a novice so thanks for your help

These tractors are quite addicting. Yes it will run fine on unleaded fuel.

Well I just brought her home. My $240.00 deal of my summer. I hope!! It's not an H, it's simply a 312. I did not take the cart as it was not a tractor cart at all but rather a garden cart. It purrs like a kitten thus far. Included in the deal are 2 new tires for rear (these alone were 100 bucks) the fronts are new and already installed. He gave me all the paper work, a 2 gallon gas can, full!! One light is out and the rear light is missing the lens, the steering wheel cap is missing, she needs a bath. The electric lift will need to be repaired. He has run leaded fuel for 36 years in this with an additive to unleaded. Will need a new seat one day. He has replaced the battery 2 yrs ago, fuel lines just last month, carb rebuild was done, new tubes in all tires in addition to the new tires, all new cotter pins every place they're used, had blades sharpened. It has a small oil leak but he could not find it. He feels it may be the plug. He has changed oil 36 times. He stored her in the garage as he stated "in the same place for 36 years"

Skunkhome, that's going to be a tough question to answer. Both are strong. I just drove both to "test" them. That 3112H of mine took down snow this past winter like a hot knife through drawn butter. A little bit of cooking spray inside that chute showed me that this single stage thrower powered through this 12 hp briggs could handle anything and I live in a place that records high inches of snowfall yearly. We'll have to see how the kohlar does with the lawn. On to my new toy fella"s. See you all here soon.

The white lettering says "DELUXE" the tractor supplier who originally sold this has their company logo on the side of the hood on both sides. Not attractive but will live with it. The seat actually folds forward. It's hinged with a latch and storage underneath. I guess I don't know what the plastic tray is you're referring to. Would love to know though. He told me it originally had a gas cap with indicator but the indicator part went missing. Not much missing from this at all. Feeling very happy tonight with my purchase.

That is what is known as a 312D. Electric clutch, electric lift, 3 speed transmission with a variable speed pulleys with 7 speed ranges, deluxe seat. The headlights were optional. I am thinking that is the second model as we had the first model in 1971.

"American Gothic". Mom and Dad summer of 1972.

Not really sure what the difference was beyond the decals. Ours had a builders label that said made in Lexington SC. What says yours? BTW all 300 and 400 series tractors were AC built in Lexington SC.

I would guess that you have already noticed that the 312D feels very different from your 3112. I always thought the steering was superior to the our B1 and B10 even with the wide front tires.

Thank you for sharing this pic. That tractor looks awesome all new and nice! I will check out the serial numbers and plates tomorrow. Sounds like a cup of coffee morning project to me. I love the history as well Thank you for sharing that. We lived in the country in the same years just like you. We had an AMF handle bar rear engine job. Not sure what made pops purchase that as we had a Case Dealer and John Deere dealer just about 2 miles away as well as a Toro dealer about 2 miles the other direction. I've found some pics of that online. Enjoy your night.

BTW it does retain the plastic insert under the seat. I looked throughout this morning for a builders plate with identifiers but I cannot locate anything. I am making a novice list of what I believe is missing or broken. I will do maintenance in the general form today, air cleaner, change oil, tire pressure, a light bulb and general cleaning up, it has a brand new spark plug already. This machine seems so complete it may very well be my first attempt at a restore project. I'm not a wrench turner, never have been, but I believe with the help of my friends and this forum I can do this. :thanku: that manual will be a HUGE help. I find the 3112H to be more "Brute" like. Its yanked out three fairly large tree stumps for me this year. It will take down anything in its path it seems. I accidentally hit the tire of my GMC Sierra 1500 while blowing snow this past winter. It literally pick the truck up and moved it about 8 inches. Fortunately the auger was disengaged. The steering on the AC is totally different and much easier to maneuver with what seems like a better and easier radius.
