I brought home the new project today. She's going to need quite a bit of work to bring her back to life, I'm afraid, but for $250 I couldn't NOT buy her.

The side panels were included, but no mowing deck or other implements. She is missing her front PTO as well. Anyway, the oddessy begins...

It does not run, but it does turn. There's oil everywhere there should be (and some where there shouldn't be). There is no fuel pump and I haven't checked compression yet, so I don't know if the engine is a basket case or not. There is quite a bit of carbon on the old plugs and from what I can see down in the chamber. I'm not encouraged by that, but we'll see. I might rebuild it regardless.

The steering wheel doesn't turn the wheels, so I'm guessing a steering box rebuild is in order, or at least the check valve? I really have no clue at this point.

So far, I have just changed the oil and installed a new filter and spark plugs. I need a fuel pump and a battery to go much further. If it starts I'll run some seafoam through it and make a big cloud.

I checked the serial number and it's a 1983 (first year of production). The engine is a B43G, just like one might expect.

The seller threw in Tech Manual 1590 and also an Onan service manual, both on CD. Now all I need is a big box of parts and some time. I have my other tractor to mow with and etc., so there's no big itchin' hurry. I plan to take my time and completely restore this beast.

Don't worry about the steering yet. You have just lost prime from it sitting. It will pump up once the engine starts.

Look in the FAQ section and get the baseline maintenance checklist and run through it.

This is one time it looks like it should have a grill emblem.
I think it will be a great and rewarding project !!

Did you get the side tins for the motor also? Looks like they are missing also. Is the motor the "B" series or the newer "P" series ? Like D-Dogg said the steering has to have the motor running to work. Congrats on the new project that will consume all your spare time.... KJD

Yes, I got the side panels too. The engine is a B43G. I'm really looking forward to bringing her back to working life.
