3000 series forward and reverse setting

OK, maybe I just don't get it. My 3000 used to go forward very fast but the reverse would only work if I reached down and pulled the forward pedal up. The reverse pedal would not put the linkage enough.

So I found two places to adjust. One by the two pedals and one under the middle of the tractor. I adjusted the one by the pedals to give the reverse a max movement. Then moved the one in the middle so that it was about 1/4" back from max throttle. Now it goes forward and reverse but forward is not as fast as it used to be. I then tried it with a max forward throttle but then pushing the brake would make the tractor go forward. That wasn't right so I went back to the other setting.

Does anyone know what I did wrong here? Is there another place to help with these linkage adjustments? took forever to mow the front with the tractor moving forward at a slower pace.

We've found, and others have posted, that the way that it works is to find the sweet spot in the adjustment at the front/rear connecting rods.
We can only have fwd/rev in a set range as built. Find it and pin it. :trink39:

Yep, you only get somewhere around 180deg of rotation on the splined motion control shaft on the hydrostat. If you take too much for forward speed, you'll loose it in reverse speed. You could have a worn bushing somewhere in the linkage or the dampener strut is binging up.

diesel_nut posted one for the 2500's a while back. It was a matter of just loosening the bolt and linkage for the F/R pedal and finding the "sweet spot". On the 3000's they have a separate F & R pedal?

Yes the 3000 series has seperate F & R pedals. Old pic :fing32:

hey, i am getting ready to buy tires. what kind are thos on your back? Are they the carlisle lugs?

yes and no.... the older 3000 series had 2 piece welded wheels, not stamped. The older ones also had "real" brakes. They had disk brakes on each wheel, not this internal "emergency/parking" brake crap. Other than that, I think they are pretty much the same, minus the cowasaki engine isn't an option nor the briggs anymore.
