Hi everybody. I recently decided to fix up my late grandpas 2 JD mowers a 185 hydro 46 inch deck with the 17hp kawi and a 175 with 2 38 inch decks and a 14 hp kawi. Ive got the 185 coming together pretty good except for a couple issues maybe yall can help me with. 1= Does anyone have a picture of how the front of the deck attaches to the frame? It was off when I got it and im sure im missing a bracket or something. 2= Is there anywhere other than the dealer to get new deck spindles for the 46 inch deck? 3 @ 155 each is gonna get pretty expensive quick. 3= On the carb above the line that feeds the fuel there are two nipple looking pieces one with a hole and one without the one between the linkage and the block has had a piece of hose put on it and blocked off. If you remove it gas comes out while its running and drips on the sheet metal. Does anyone know what that is and what it needs to be hooked to instead of just blocked off? Thanks a lot Im now gonna attempt to load pics of the carb. Wish me luck.

Hi Nissanman,

I don't have a 46" deck, so no pics from me unfortunately... BUT I did a bit of a search using the "Way-Back Machine" (aka the Google search tool), and found at least ONE thread where there's some pix of the 46" deck.... STILL doesn't give ya exactly how it hooks up, but maybe it'll help, and MAYBE Austinado (to whom the 46" deck depicted belonged) will happen along and be able to provide some action shots of the deck hooked up for ya...

Oh, and BTW, :MTF_wel:

Hi Nissanman98, welcome to the forum!

I have a 175, and, while this is mostly guesswork based on pictures, I would say the deck attaches fairly similar on the 185.

1) Line the deck up under the tractor
2) Attach rear weight-carrying arms (from deck to tractor)
3) Attach deck height adjustment (J-arms on tractor, one with an adjustable threaded section)
4) Position deck drivebelt on PTO
5) Attach front arms
6) Tension drive belt.

Hope this helps, let me know if I'm close to correct!

Also... :wwp:

Thanks for the replies guys. @ littletractorguy thanks for trying to help. Just like you ive looked and looked everywhere I could find on the net. Im sure somebody will come along with that info fresh on the brain. @ Mowin'Man Ive got the deck on and everything looks right to me except I don't have any type of front arms/bracket or any hardware to use. Im trying to figure out what kind of arms I need. Im not sure if its the same brackets as the 38 inch or not. The 38 uses two separate straight arms but 38 doesn't have the same type of J hooks on the deck like the 46 do

Hmm. I should know this but its early... I have a 46 for my 180 but since the 180 has been a snowblower for 5 years its been a bit since I've hooked it up. But basically this is one way:

I know my draft arms are not quite like the ones pictured but pretty similar. I think mine curve where they attach to the tractor and use cotter pins.

Hey everyone. I have a 185 with a 46" deck and upon removing the deck for belt replacement, I see I am missing the draft rods from the front of the deck. This could be why the deck drive belt is different from the one specified. Mine is shorter. While I did find draft arms on ebay, they are pretty pricy. Can someone give me the dimensions of the draft rods as shown in this photo? I would like to try to make them from scratch. I need the diameter of the rods and the distance from the hole in the yoke to the bend that goes in the tractor frame bracket. Thanks!

Sounds like the bowl vent. You need a new needle and seat in the carb and/or a float adjustment or replacement.
