yes your stack should be supported, other then the pipe. google muffler bearing. frieghtliner i believe. serious not jerkin any chains. they call the vertical exhaust brace a bearing, since mercedez got involved

I had an upright muffler for a Farmall Cub on my 67-112 (HH100 Tecumseh) without bracing, but hat engine had very little viabration.

The "L60" (8HP Briggs), however does have bracing. Many tractors should have bracing! ~~ grnspot110

aw man, now I got the itch. I Like the way the stacks look on that craftsman.

@exto, i think that Tractor Supply has them. also, you can use a stock muffler off of a larger tractor

Cool, thanks for the info. I got bored and made a strait pipe a few days ago. It was better than the stock pepper shaker up to about half throttle, but wound up being luder beyond that point. I also put a water trap in the bottom of mine to keep condensation from running back into the engine. Any opinions on this?

Put duals on my simplicity a couple of years ago and that is where
I got my mufflers from.

Thought I would post a few pics of mine since I added the new stack back in Sept. Its another Farmall Cub muffler from TSC and it is much nicer than either the stock muffler or my last attempt at a stack which was a piece of Iron pipe with a Briggs hot dog muffler on the top. Nice deep sound and not so loud that you kill yourself mowing the grass. Can also see my hood repair. What engineer thought that hood hinge was a good design? The pics are in the garage because I ran her out of gas for the season a week or two ago and did not feel like pushing her out. Maybe you guys will enjoy the background:ROF

this is an open exhaust with no brace.its looks good and sounds great.i put it on several years ago.i dont recomend it though because it should have a brace and if you have neighbors close by,there are times they may not like you (such as 8 in the morning).

Ok, I'll throw my pics in here, too.

Added on a muffler from a Farmall Cub and put a generic rain cap on it. Made sure it was secure to the engine and then added a support to the frame. Someone else had commented about putting too much strain on the head. These old B&S engines are too hard to find parts for, so I wasn't taking any chances.

Added the stainless heat shield just to keep from direct contact with the muffler, but there's still plenty of heat there. To me, it looks a little more finished. Painted the whole thing with a high-temp flat black paint used for restoring barbeques.
