Gang,

I've convinced myself that I'm going from an x728 to a 2305 this year. I'm getting a quote from the dealer in the next couple days.

- 2305 w/ r4's
- 62" MMM
- 53" 200cx loader
- 647 tiller
- my front 54" blade will move with a bracket

What else am I missing that you've all found useful for this set up? Looking for tractor accessories. I'm not overly concerned about a ballast box as I can strap enough weight w/ loaded 26" R1 TruPower tires, wheel weights, and tiller to the back end. I will need to get a set of wheels to move the tires to..they're on my old g100 rims and they set way narrow on my x728. Works great for plowing the drive though.

For lights, etc...am I better doing some of the stuff on my own or should I just get the kits from the dealer?

Only problem, the ROPS won't allow me to put it in the house garage...I'll be left to the shop. My garage under the house is only 6'...I only store it there during the winter months to keep me from trapsing through the snow. That's a small price to pay.

I welcome your feedback! Happy new year. :drunkie:

JD,
You might consider the I-Match hitch. I just put one on when I did my SB1148 the week and it's worth it's weight in gold. I can change from the blower to the RB2050 rear blade in a minute. I'm adding a rear rake in the spring as well and the hitch will make all these change outs very easy. You can oics of mine on my last post for the SB48 this week.

Before you make the switch test drive the 2305. For me the ergonomics are much better on the X than on the 2305. Try to talk the dealer into throwing in the SE seat for you instead of the crappy seat that it comes with. Also I agree with getting a QH as this makes changing the attachments very easy. If you choose to go with the I-Match that will limit you to JD or Frontier implements most of the time unless you rework stuff. Check out the Work Saver QH also. If your going to be using the tractor in tall over grown stuff you might want to consider the 2320 with more ground clearance. I like my 2305 a lot and it's a pleasure to use and I haven't had any issues with it. See if your dealer will swap ROP's with you on a folding one. :goodl: slkpk

JD -

I'm in the QC too, and looking for either a 2305 -2320 - or 2520.

I'm curious to hear how your bidding process goes, so pls shoot me a pm and we can discuss.

I've been out to River Valley Turf and Holland and Sons (there's a used 2305 @ holland and sons in Geneseo, btw) but not had them quote me NEW yet....

anyway -- good luck, and PM me.

thks,
gr

As far as the lights go, I would get my own lights and install them myself, and save some $$ over the Deere lights. Also, if the 2305 is gonna sleep in a unheated building, go ahead and get the block heater and maybe the trans. heater, your tractor will love you for it on those cold mornings. :praying:

And JD4 and Ghostrider, check this thread out. Your both more than welcome to join us if you can. Looks like Galesburg on the 9th. No time or place set just yet. :trink39:

Sounds like a nice New Year's present to yourself! :) I wouldn't summarily dismiss the ballast box. I'm not sure the tiller/weights = a fully loaded ballast box, and even if it is, the weight is more compactly distributed to the rear of the tractor (ie the 2305 is going to be much longer than your X anyway). Femco makes a nice folding ROPS for about $300.

thanks for the feedback. The tractor will be stored in a heated building. No worries about a block heater.

I've considered going larger, but a lot of the talk here has convinced me to go 2305 vs. larger. I've got 2.25 acres...all hills. Since I'll be mowing 1-2x/week in the warm seasons, I need the ability to navigate in high gear. Plus, I like the lower center of gravity the 2305 offers. I've had the misfortune of rolling a my old g100 and I (and my wife) get pretty sensitive on the slopes. If anyone has experience with a 2320 or 2520 on hills and slopes, I'm all ears. I like some of the features of the 20 series over the 2305.

I've considered used...could pay for all of it up front. I'm used to getting a new machine every year with the X-Series, but probably won't do that with the 2305. I can point the extra outlay in $$ towards some other place and do better with the money. JD will let me stretch the additional funds needed over 4 years...I'm a sucker for free financing since I can ussually do better with the saved cash elsewhere.

Again, thanks for the feedback so soon. I feel like I've thought most of this through. One aspect I haven't considered much is the resale. Larger frame machines fetch more at resale than the smaller counterparts?

Thanks for the invite. Probably won't make it. I'm actually in Geneseo, so it's tempting. Don't know what the work schedule looks like just yet. Might end up working Saturday.

Since you are getting a loader my advice is spend the extra money and get a four way bucket. It is by far the handiest thing I have did! Plus the frontplumbing will let you run a hydro turn plow or a hydro driven front mount post hole digger.

It is so nice to pull up to a pile of whatever and close the clam around it and not leave any behind.

It is MUCH easier to just order one of EVERY attachment that JD sells for the 3PH...:sidelaugh

In lieu of a ballast box, I'd get a nice 60" box blade. They're very handy, and you can hang weights on it if needed to increase your rear ballast for the FEL. Of course, a good BB will weigh around 350# by itself.

I would just do your own lights. I have the JD kit on mine and just replaced the front lights and it's so much better now. I used two Hella AS115 work lamps. They are great, but I'm going to have to wire a separate circuit for them since they have 2 55w bulbs each.

I use my 2305 on 3 acres and I also have steep hills. The 2305 is like a billy goat on the hills. Very stable but like everything you can roll it. Thats what I like about the ROP'S & Seat belt on it. I've had it on 2 & 3 wheels and it will make you pucker & clench when that happens. I now take a different approach when mowing on my hills without any problems. slkpk

... be sure you add an iMatch. You won't regret getting it. ;)

I looked at both 2305,and 2320 before buying my 2320 theese where the big points that stood out to me the 2320 had a larger more reliable transmission and the bigest thing for me was the three point was not limited like the 2305 witch means Im able to grab just about any attatchment with the 2320. As far as hill sides I have only had it on a couple but it seemed Very stable. Not saying the 2305 is not a good machine at all I just wanted a bigger machine for my 1.3 acres with the idea I may buy more property in the future but who knows.

Although the 2305 is very stable mowing on slopes, the addition of wheel spacers really helps. I and several others here highly recommend them. :)

If you're looking at anything but Frontier attachments I would look at Pats easy change, its superb.

I only rolled the g100 because the lawn roller I was pulling slipped into the ditch and pulled the tractor in behind it. I jumped into and electrified barb-wire fence to save myself from the whirling blades. I don't want to do that again. I few small lacerations and a nice 4" scar on my back from the barbs...but I'm still here to talk about it and trust me, I've learned my lesson.
