Are there any storage facilities near by. Over here the rent them out and the bigger ones are alarmed. Rent a storage unit thats alarmed and trailer it back and forth if trailering to and from home is too far. Nothing is perfect and likethey said if they want itthey will find a way to get it. The ideas we are giving are not going to stop a motivated thief. Just slow him down. Oh and for the record I would still take the green kubota. But paint it bright pink like the barn and now I would have to leave it there.

I think a trailer is a worse idea then just leaving it... it's like gift wrapping it because all they need to do is take the trailer. If somebody is going to go through hardened chain, they're going to defeat whatever kind of trailer lock you've got and get your trailer too. I can just see someone taking an enclosed trailer thinking they'll get some tools only to open it up at home and find your tractor...

How about taking the lug nuts with you (leaving the wheels on) will the tractor stay together if you pull all the lug nuts and don't move it?

They are that motivated and as soon as the wrong person realizes you left a gold mine unattended in a flimsy shed with no real nieghbours they 'll take it.
Will your insurance cover equipment left out on unattended property???
Best person to ask is your insurance company.

I have motion avtivated GPS on every piece of gear I have, aside from landscaping I own a large percentage of a monitoring company from security to tracking offenders using GPS.

It isn't that complicated to add this and with changes in technology you can have an alarm sent to your cell phone, I leave all my gear on clients property and if something is moved which has only happened once, the police consider this a crime in progress and we can tell them exactly where it's headed...best of all I sleep wel at night.

They will never find where I have it and the moment if they do find it and cut the line, a signal is sent to my monitoring station and it will send a signal for 48+ hours dependong on the temps as it all has internal battery life.

Not that it's a bad idea, but if you weren't part owner how much would putting a tracking device on and moitoring every piece of equipment you own cost?

The reason for the trailer wasn't to leave both at site, it was to take both back HOME with him!! :00000060:

I think you missed the point...Haul it HOME.

I'm all for the "have it on a trailer and take it home at night idea". All kinds of ways to defeat the best hardend chain or cable and padlock if it's a little isolated. Cutting torch or grinder will have it off in seconds if there no one to see or hear close by. Want to be quite and sneaky? TC blade in a hacksaw will do the same with no noise, just takes a little longer. Locked door? A common pipe wrench is your best friend if you are a thief.

No, I'm not a thief. I was a welder and have some experience repairing and making things too complicated for thieves that strike out in the boondocks.
