My 2305 is now 3 years old and, as I approach my 4th winter, I'm curious to know what to expect with regards to the life expectancy of the battery. I'd sooner bit the bullet and buy a new battery before the first snow falls. what kind of experiences are out there with respect to the life expectancy of the battery in the 2210/2305 community? To the extent many of you have already replaced your battery, what did you buy?

Thanks for any advice and, for those of us without a heated cab, let's hope for a mild winter.

Steve

When you do replace it...get an Interstate...;)

I punted this winter. Bought a new battery for my X585. Think about it. You depend on the tractor in the worst weather possible. Even if it is stored in an unheated building, it still is a job for the battery. Buying a new one is insurance that the 5th winter won't be an issue.

Good Advice! :trink40:
Can't go wrong with an interstate.
$50-75 well spent for insurance. No battery is expected to last much beyond 4-5yrs. max.
Sporadic use on a tractor (unlike daily use in an automobile) is even harder on the battery.

Extend the life of your new battery in the future by buying a battery tender to keep the cell in top condition when not in constant use!

My personal choice is an optimateIII, but there are many out there that do an adequate job for less. Tender will cost about $50 (+/-).

I agree after three years you should be thinking it could go any time. Interstate Batteries have a good reputation around my area of the country. That is probably what I would buy. My 2305 is a 2007 model with 190 hrs. You just never know about a battery. :fing32:

If you are worried abt it, take it to a parts store and have it load tested. If it tests good keep using it. My old 1999 GT235 had the original battery in it when I traded it 2 years ago and it still tested perfect. That was surviving -40 days in an unheated quonset and on more than one occasion starting at -25. Some batteries may die sooner some may last around here they just don't die you have indications they are on their way out. If I don't use the tractor for a few weeks I throw a tender on the battery for a couple days. Also keep the fluid levels up in the battery.

A lot of Deere owners have gone to the Optima batteries. Why Deere continues to use the style batteries they do is beyond me. :(

:ditto:The battery is the only issue I have had. It quit after about 13 months.
Quitting is one problem, corrosion because they are unsealed is another. :(

Strongboxes are relatively cheap...;)
which is why they use them...that and they sit dry in the warehouse until they dump the fluid in on the assembly line...;)

You can improve the life with a battery tender...

that and follow the user manual's recommendation of REMOVING them anytime you even THINK about not using the tractor for any period of time...:sidelaugh

i have a 04 JD 2210 with over 400 hours on it. original battery still works great. I find if ya start your unit you need to run it for 1/2 hour or more to make sure she is charged up before you turn it off again. My neibour had to replace his jd's battery after the first winter. He would start the unit up, rush around do his driveway and turn it of in ten to fifteen minutes.

My 2305 is 31 months old with the original battery. I will be replacing it with a sealed unit. The battery is leaking out through the vent holes and has corroded everything in the area and I hope it hasn't damaged the radiator. This is something all 2210/2305 owners should look at. slkpk

I'm going to give it a good baking soda bath when I get it back from my SIL. I'm sure you'll make that 112 just as good if not better. This has been a crazy year at work for me with a lot of traveling. Your always welcome down here in the Land of Obama or was that Lincoln:trink40: slkpk
