Hi guys, been busy with things and neglect to post here. Been lurking and following you guys with machines. This was a poorly maintained trade in L120 we got in June this year. Guy said his in law rammed it full speed into tree drunk!! Engine barely ran and front toe-out issue. We left it for dead really. Kept doing other machines, wound up getting another L120. Engine was thought to be blown by pro shop and they sold it for scrap. Turned out push rods fell off and dad worked his magic and we sold her for good money. I let our neighbor try that one for us to test, he fell for it and wanted one!! As it was sold, we told him this one was his when we did it.
Dad worked hard to repair hood and we worked out bugs with engine. Today we left it at his door as he wasn't home. He got home a few minutes ago and we watched out window as he looked her over and drove it into garage. Will talk to him tomorrow I bet!!
Before pictures and video.

Nice job Eric!

That hood looks great. Looks like the tractor is running great too.

Isn't it just so satisfying bringing something like that back to life. Something everyone else has given up on. Even yourself at one point! I love stories like that.
And nice touch giving it to the neighbour.

Thanks Goatboy! Just finished post, computer acted weird and made my screen very small?? Got scared of loosing all that typing and submitted it FAST!! :)

Nice job Eric, being a BS engine with known pushrods issues, after I get the pushrods issue fixed I run some oil ( Marvel Mystry Oil) with the gas because the clearance of the pushrods and guides are too close and will bend again if temp in motor gets real hot, might not ever bend again without doing what I do but peace of mind to me is worth the oil in the gas

I fixed up a 16hp Intek single earlier this year that had the valve guide pull out of the head, then seize and cause the casting to break where the stud threads in.

After replacing the head with a new used one, I installed 2 steel pushrods instead of 1 steel and 1 aluminum on the intake. I have seen a few aluminum ones bent and thought I'd try a steel instead. So far so good.

Ericjr16:.. I have a Scotts made by JD.. it's just a painted different colord L 120 like u have.. mine has cruise control too.. this mower was a 'roll over victim.. it laid on it's side with engine runnin.. blew the rods.. I found a 2 year newer & 1 hp more 'V' twin B & S for it.. mine has a 48 deck too.. gonna convert it into my hillside mower.. will add weights to rear & front first.. will lower the center of gravity on it..

Thanks guys, biker we actually did same thing! Since we will still "own" it, as in when it breaks! This Briggs was ok push rod wise. The other one we got over the summer from Toro dealer was one with rods bent and off! Was good to have spare parts when we scrap, had a set laying in tool box and pops got it sorted.
Whiry my friend! I like the Scotts as in looks! My neighbors yard is usually in videos I make. It has some hills, not bad though. We installed brand new gator blades in case we or he find a bagger for it. Keeping an eye on deck bearing, a little louder than other model we had.

How much Marvel oil do you put in the gas?

Tell Pop he's a heck of a body man, really like the hood fix and the two tone paint! Sounds like it's running and driving well too!

I go to NAPA for all my deck bearings.. u will find a number on the seals of the bearing.. they can cross this over to their brand.. most generally I pay 5-8$$ per bearing..

now I just rebuilt mama's old washing machine it's a Fisker-Paykal brand.. also it's a HE machine.. made in New Zealand.. thus it's all meteric.. parts r a bit pricy.. but we didn't find a number on the 2 bearings on the big tub.. we measured them with a mic.. then my NAPA guy used these to get me new ones.. Fisker-Paykal wanted 21.33 each.. (plus shippin).. NAPA got 8.99$$ each plus 5.99 shippin.. a lot cheaper..

Art cruised over on it all happy! Asked how things work on it. Impressed him with hood! He wants to pay, we said no. Just happy to be a blessing.
