I pulled this out of the weeds behind the machine shed at my father-in-law's the other day to use as yard art. Then I got to thinking about fixing it up a bit and giving it a paint job. That is how I found this great forum. I think that I will be in trouble before this is over. There are two Ferguson tractors down there too. The bug is starting to at least circle, if it hasn't bitten yet.

Anyway, what can you tell me about this:

Based on the logo, it is an International Harvester. Where can I find pictures of restored ones that will show me the proper paint scheme?

Any idea what this "box" is on the tongue? It is really more like sheet metal bent in a loop with the tongue as the bottom.

My guess is that this is a tool box with the lid missing.

Anyway, whatever you can tell me will be appreciated.

The box is a tool box, would've had a stamped tin cover on it when it was new.

I use a john deere #5 sickle behind a Model A, and even that is time consuming. Cannot imagine doing that with a horse.

On considering my grandfather farmed for a good portion of his life using horses, and still had some of his horses even after my mother was born.

Not that long ago, this was a new mower.
