I keep wanting me either an A or a B with a wide front end. Can a person attach a tiller to either of these tractors? Would i need to buy a 3 point setup?

I've never heard of a B with a wide front end.
For that matter... I've never heard of an A with a narrow front end.

The 2 tractors are very similar (horsepower-wise) though.

I don't really know that much about the IH proprietary implements... there may've been a tiller for the A's (I kinda doubt there was one for the B's... as they were replaced relatively early, as compared to the other 'letter series' Farmalls). You'd probably come closer to finding a tiller for a later model A (or even a 100/140) that had either the Fast-Hitch or a 3 point on it, already.

:goodl:

Tall Grass,

To me, there is not much diff in the A & B besides the A having a wider front than the B, and the B having a wider rear. Don't get me wrong, I love my B in my avatar pic, but if I had a magic wand, it would be changed to an A tonight!

i have a 43 model B that i put an A front end on, it works very well, i liked the slightly wider rear-end i didnt mind the Narrow front but, the cast steering housing had cracked so i swapped the entire thing. out the only problem is on the right hand side the front end doesnt widen enough to align it with the back tires. its only short about 6 inches though.
as for the tiller, i have never seen a letter series with a factory set-up. either one with a three-point set up would work with it.

I would tend to think the ground speed of the A or B would be to fast when you had the engine at PTO speed. At least any I have been on in my opinion were.

We have 2 A Farmalls and 1 B. Very nice tractors but with no hydraulics or three point hitch on them and no real slow first gear I don't think they would make ideal tiller tractors. The B Farmalls rear tire spacing would be very wide for the size tiller you could run with it along with having the narrow front end. The A has the wide front end and can be narrowed up quite a bit, more in size to the tiller you could run. You could make a hydraulic system and three point but it would take quite a bit of fabrication.
The super A Farmalls had a hydraulic lift system on it and that would simplify your conversion some. The lift was a mid mount rockshaft, not a three point hitch but I have seen that system modified to either use a remote hydraulic cylinder or to make arms from the rockshaft to raise other implements.
Just my 2 cents worth.
