Look down on the right side of the transmission. There will be a tab that has a number stamped on it. That's the serial number. There's sources on the internet that group the serial numbers by year. I have my dad's and grandmother's Horse tillers. Hers is a '75 model with a serial number of 153307. My dad's is a '80 model and the serial starts 447xxx. Hope this helps.

Two belt tillers are two speed. The single belt tillers are 4 speed. The transmission and engine pulley are correspondingly stepped. The belt has to manually be changed from one groove up or down to the other matching groove. The larger side of the pulley is low and the smaller side of the pulley is high and then you have the high and low speed lever giving 4 speeds.

:Welcome1:

Do you have a pic of the original decal from the time shield? Those can help confirm age range.

From your other thread, the engine is a repower, correct? That would explain the orange.
