Bought a new Simplicity Regent from a family friends ex-wife. The thing runs great except for the issue with it moving. If you have the pedal pushed down 1/8th of the way it will move all day long but VERY slow. If you put it between 1/8-1/2 way down it will creep for a second and then stop. If you put it to the floor it won't even budge. Any ideas? The drivebelt has a few cracks but its not oily or glazed over. The transmission release lever is is the correct position. These parts came with the tractor and she said she found them on the lawn right about the same time it started acting up. The hook on the one side of the spring snapped off. I don't know where they go or if they were even to the tractor.

Tom I'm not sure about the top spring but the one on the bottom sure looks like a spring for an idler pulley. That may be off the drive belt idler which would explain your motion control problem. Without the spring on the drive idler there is not enough tension on the drive belt and it will slip on the transmission pulley.

Well I drove over to the barn to check out my other Regent. I pulled the deck and crawled underneath. The only spring like that goes from the frame to part of the brake assembly. I thought to myself "Ahh Haa! I found it" I drove home to crawl under the new one and the spring was on it. So either its just complete coincidence that she found an almost identical spring laying in the lawn or my other mower is also missing this spring and is still working fine.

well you could try the use it till it falls out method. i been using it on pick ups for years. kinda know for it by people. find where its acting up and leave it there, and what ever is acting up will give up at some point. smokes a belt your lucky :)

I have a Prestige and I have a spring just like that long one. It is a tensoner spring to the hydro belt drive. Mine broke just like that last year and I was dead in the water.I had to be towed back to the garage. You will have to purchase a new spring and it attaches from the tensoner pulley to the side of the tractor frame. It will take a little bit of effort to get it back into the hole on the side of the tractor frame. Be advised the spring hole on the tensoner pulley might be in bad shape. Apparently the difference between the hardness of the spring steel and the bracket.

when you purchase the new spring have the parts dealer give you a printout of the spring location. I had no idea where it was attached to the frame.

Can't help you with the other spring.

The small one looks as if it came from a flashlight to keep tension on the batteries:)

The bottom one is for the drive belt idler. Mine broke just like yours , I took it to the lawn mower shop for a new one and they just heated iit up and put a new hook on the end and reheat treated it for 5 bucks and it works fine.

I said it looked like the one you always find in a weed whacker that is giving you **** when you go to put everything back together after filling it with line.

Just wandering did you find where the springs goes? I found the same small spring. It's not listed in the parts manual, that I could find. The problem I seem to have is when I make a sharp turn It acts like it gets into a bind and if I turn the wheel just a little it snaps and continues on. I purchased a used unit this happend after the second morning. I thought maybe it was the other wheel ingaging like posi-tract. Otherwise a great unit.........
