Gravely electrical problem

I have a 1970's vintage Gravely commercial 12 walk behind. The other day it quit quite suddenly, making it look like an electrical problem. I changed the ancient condenser. That did not help and I have no idea how to proceed next.
Our local Gravely dealer seems to think that I should singlehandedly finance his retirement when I even think of bringing my tractor in.
Any suggestions?

I had a wire on the keyswitch connector get hot and melt the connector and cause a poor connection which burnt off the prong on the keyswitch. Also had problems with the points getting nasty once, ran one day, no start the next.

i think i would start with pulling the plug, reattaching the wire, setting it on the head and turning it over to see if i had spark.

if i did, then i would move on to running out of fuel!

Bumped this thread up from the past. Its my first post. Been lurking around for several months, super forum.

I bought this from Rene the OP. It turned out the ignition switch was badly corroded. I removed (cut) the wires from the switch as they were rusted solid. A little bit of time with the Fluke multimeter and she is running. Quite well too. I picked up a riding sulky and the "brush hog" deck this weekend, it also came with a snowblower. (not the dog catcher style) Here is a picture of the rig. (maybe)

I plan on sticking around and have a Cub 1200 and Wheel Horse GT-14 so I'll be in those catagories too.

He actually had it on Craigslist here in NH 2 weeks ago. After I bought it I read most of the of Gravely threads and found his post. I did get an ok price (I think)

Good for you that you figured out the problem. I do think that you got a good deal on teh Gravely, but then I also think that I got a fair deal, and you turned out to be an honest guy so it's a win-win.
If I have trouble with my Deere 111 I may give you a call.

Rene, I hope you get another Gravely. Shing is now a NH Gravely guy but we always hate to loose one.. Was that expensive Gravely guy in central NH?
