Well I finished up my tiller yesterday and got it mounted on the tractor, I was excitied to try it out.

I went down to the garden and tried out a row But it didn't seem like it was going deep enough after playing with the adjustments on the 3 point hitch it seemed a little better but not much.

Can anyone tell by my pics if my adjustments are way outta wack ? I noticed the tiller has 2 mounting holes for the top link, which is the better to use ?

So many pics I figured it would be easier to link to my photobucket.

NICE looking work. Your tiller looks like mine. Mine is used on a 990 & I can bury the tines the full depth after a couple of passes. My 3 point hitch is different than yours however. Do you have a depth control or "stop" for your mower or other attachments? The 990 has it on the left side. This needs to be adjusted so the tiller can go down or set to different depths. Good luck

Yup I got the bars raised up to the highest setting, Guess my problem was I thought it would go full depth on the first shot, the more i till the deeper it goes (newbie mistake) First time owning a tractor mounted tiller, LOL

Do you know what model your tiller is ? My numbers are not very clear this is what I make of it 191-981a. I contactd MTD online and they said there is no such tiller.

nice set up you got there. Really like the tractor! should last a long time.
Thank You, I hope I get a few years out of it. I mainly got it to save on the back breaking labor of tilling my 2 gardens, but the 50 inch deck will be nice also.

I talked to my father about when he used to run the tiller. He said you can sink it to 12-14" after a few passes. Be careful though once the gearbox and shaft are below the soil sandy debris will find it's way into the seals and wear them. He mentioned they aren't too bad to replace though.

Can't get to my tiller to see the number. It's in the back of the shed stored for the winter. However my manual says it is for #'s 198 987A and 198 989A
so probably what looks to you like 198 981A is really the 987A????? Sure looks the same anyway. My manual shows hook-up for the 990 style 3 point hitch only, your's is obviously different. Perhaps others may have one that fits your hitch.

981 is the right model number for the tiller for the White GT-1X55 series (right shaft length and shaft hangar that hooks on the deck lift). The 191 prefix means it was made in '81 or '91, not sure which.

Nice looking tiller! Can't wait to get mine happening.

Where in "NT" are you and your "GT1655"?
